If you're transferring sound digitally, you really need to ensure you stump up for high-quality components that don't degrade the digital signal. Most of us plebs probably won't know the difference but real audiophiles - and it sounds like you may well be one - really pick up the difference.
All starts with the cabling, so I'd recommend you swap out your current internals for the likes of..
- If you really, really want greatness get the goldplated gas-injected cables. They simply send those digital signals so much more digital.Peter
- much more digital. Like, super digital!Peter
- As an audiophile of sorts myself, my understanding is that cabling is in fact the least of the problems.monospaced
- It's all about good source and good processing, then amps/speakers. Cabling comes last.monospaced
- Hmm, I'm not so sure I'd consider you an audiophile, Mono - you're not a big fan of Coldplay, are you?detritus
- I'm only familiar with processing if its old school. How would this work with new computer systems.yurimon
- if you abandon the mini stereo concepts and go computer routeyurimon

- For computers, it's all about a high-end D/A converter. This well ensure that the signal doesn't degrade before leavingmonospaced
- And yes, I'm sort of an audio nerd, and Coldplay had a couple of good tracks back in the day.monospaced

If you want good quality sound it's generally going to cost good money, and if you want clarity, buy monitors, not speakers.
I have a simple but expensive setup but it sounds incredible, I have also gone and re-ripped my CDs for playing WAV files.
PC via Firewire > MOTU Traveler > Optical cable to DSpeaker room correction > Mackie HRS-120 Sub > PSI A215M.
The PSI's are the clearest monitors I have ever heard.
Headphones are great and all but you won't go the real feel of bass.
I use the KRK-8400 which you can get for $120.- < this sounds like sort of an audio nerd2002
- thanks, sounds good.yurimon
- ffs all that must be pushing £10k!hans_glib
- people say flac is better then wav formatyurimon
- basically what I was saying, especially about the D/A convertermonospaced
