another comment on doing things your way the last 10 years - notice the heavy decline in the user-base and how less engaged many are (lurkers) compared to the 3-columnj days of NT where the site was always bustling with activity.
i know someone mentioned a few of us have been talking about the past like it was the good ole days but i think there's something to be said for the 'caliber' of content and contributors we had here. and certainly a lot less jaded people back then too.

again, we are the content. The content you see is the content people put on QBN. Sensible content is clearly identified in thread's name. You are free to not click on those. I like QBN also because it's a free space. Some forums with highly moderated content can become very hermetic and boring.

I think if they just ban Georges this place will clean up instantly. Although, daily postages will be reduced by 2/3rds at least.

Like the Layers Vault's Designer News forum, its a design oriented forum, it's cool. But I dont want to hang out over there that much, its kinda boring and hermetic... straightlined content, no one can cross the lines. I dont want QBN to become like that.

- Just get rid of cotd and related bs threads2002

I'd suggest myself since I feel like a pretty level-headed member and have been here for around 10 years. If new members will be allowed soon, I'd be glad to be part of whatever crew is needed to keep things in line. It was long ago, but I was a moderator on Flashkit back in the early heyday of Flash. I was one of the mods in the Flash 5 forum, the Design Critique forum, Show Your Site, and some others. Street cred! LOL.

I have the impression this rare QBN post resurrected lots of old NT ppl. Maybe it's the post, maybe just the long winter, but it shows that NT or QBN is loved by it's users a lot...

I want to take a bigger whack at the design discussion vs. tangentially related to design or unrelated to design discussion topic. The whole debate feels very binary.
I love public voice. It’s the main reason I’ve kept coming here. I prefer it to reddit. What get’s discussed here is organic to the community and it should stay that way. I’d like there to be more design related discussion; however, everyone saying that the folks who want that should just start the movement themselves by plunking down a topic themselves is 100% right.
That doesn’t mean that PV couldn’t be improved and I think everyone suggesting things like ability to tag or filter discussions is on the right track. But seriously - PV is a democracy, the conversation will always gravitate towards what the majority wants.
I think Public Choice needs the most attention. Promote it’s functionality in the overall design of the homepage and buff up it’s feature set. Editor’s Choice is always stagnant, and I tend not to mess with PC because a 30px thumbail and severely limited description isn’t enough to engage with. It was always a shitty design. Discussion of design (namely critique) will go up a ton if the right things are done here. And Public Voice can remain the lawless wild west it has always been. Full of porn, designers who need business advice, apple/android/flash/html5 fanboy flame wars and everything else we love about it.
- that's all fine and good but you'll not likely garner the attention of outsiders like this.SteveJobs
- if all they see is porn, nsfw, * of the day, etc, ad nauseum, they won't take this site seriously much less contributeSteveJobs
- it'll just breed and foster more of the same. i appreciate your point, but some communities benefit from moderation.SteveJobs
- I won't object to moderation of threads like COTD, but non-design topics aren't bad..jtb26
- Fair point.jtb26
- So many threads are full of animated GIFs. How do you expect anyone to have a serious discussion when 95% of posts are irrelevantJaline

The problem as I see it, is that without the means for new people to ask or to answer industry-related questions, the resource-aspect of this site is greatly diminished.
A limited resource will necessarily veer from purpose, especially when that resource becomes closed-off and then increasingly self-referential and opaque to new blood.
Gets some mods in, open up the site for a while and let's see how things evolve.
- autoflavour0
First step should be ban anyone who constantly complains about threads.. COTD or not, whining about a thread you dont use is stupid..
- benfal990
Steve Jobs, I think you exagerate a little bit about how much nsfw stuff there's on QBN and how much it would disgust and scare outsiders from subscribing. Seriously.
By listening to you, its like the Inter-web's ''designers'' are a bunch of fragile little flowers who can't see vulgar content without running away in disgust.
We're all adults in here and like we've said many time, the sensible content is clearly identified, and mods can clean this up when people post sensible content in non-sensible content threads. There will ALWAYS be someone to post a pair of tits in a CSS thread. It's the internetz.(btw, steve jobs, just talking here, no offence or agressivity towards you here ;)

How is that libertarian perspective working out?
- benfal990
people who want only clean, design related content, surrounded by MODS with laws and discipline. Seriously go to https://news.layervault.com/

create your own forum and moderate it, if COTD offends your delicate mind..GeorgesII - It's ok. Your brain is not fully developed to comprehend the bigger picture.2002

I quite like the way domestika is organised with set discussion topics plus an 'off topic' thread.
- SteveJobs0
GeorgesII do you only see the world in high contrast? Are all problems you face black and white and don't lie on a gradient?
It's so extremist and dramatic to suggest anyone create their own site if they have criticisms with the site they contribute to.
So the next time you take issue with anyone here or their post I'm assuming you'll take your own advice and leave qbn and create new site and build a new community?
- fyoucher10
IMO, don't think we should get rid of any type of threads, kinda like a freedom of speech type thing. Do understand it offends some people. But having crazy ass threads like that is what makes this place cool (design-related shit and stuff you can't see on the Facebook or any other highly-regulated site). Could go for the idea of an off-topic secondary section. Honestly, COTD is something I visit every day, for about a minute or so, sometimes more on a good day.
