Looking for an affordable way to print up some wedding invitations. Thinking about using an online vendor since our budget is already higher than we'd like. But open to suggestions.
If anyone has a good print vendor in LA, I'm all ears.

Vistaprint. Get the 100lb paper and it's somewhat respectable. If you don't need 100pcs of something, call them and they can change it to exactly the quantity you need...I'm pretty sure you could get them to print just 1 item for you if you wanted to try it out.

Do you know any small print shops that do smaller runs on one and 2 color machines? I found that looking for a smaller shop which specialized in 1-3 color jobs was the way to go. Smaller set up fees and less overall costs. Also, buy your own paper for sure. That shit is expensive.

You're a designer? Use your imagination and create something nice on a budget. Newspaper printers, hand make them or silkscreen them.
Don't be lazy and do a boring design and print it out on an online Fedex.

One color light color silkscreen over dark stock and trim out pieces. Or like e- said, have some stamps made from art and hand stamp a couple of layers and colors. Stuff like that?

Good suggestions. I came up with a really unique design but our budget is tight (hoping a bunch of people can't come) so I gotta cut somewhere. Looked into letter pressing which obviously isn't cheap, so seeing what else I can find. A smaller shop specializing in 1-3 color jobs would definitely work. I'll check out Vistaprint too.
Thanks all.

HP indigo type printers are going to be even cheaper than traditional lithography (1-3col printers).
Rubber Stamps are pretty expensive for large ones.
Silkscreen will give you a specific look. If it works for you, great, otherwise it's not a great option.
another cheap option (depending on how you design it) is thermographic foiling... Basically you laserprint your text and design, then run it through a hot roller with an adhesive foil. The foil sticks to the printed toner and depending on the foil, will look like a metallic foil stamp, or will puff and emboss. a white thermofoil on a dark stock can look really classy. white on white is possible as well, and you can run a first pass on an inkjet for other text and details, then laser-print the second pass for your foils.
cheapy business card/sign-shops tend to have thermo foilers. Edges will look a bit rough, but it might work with your design.

I know a shop here in san diego if you want to try to get a quote for a smaller shop. It is where I used to print all of the 2 color jobs we did. Letterpress is way outta the budget, i don't care if you own a letterpress or pay someone to run one. too much money. go offset. go limited colors. make it a fun project.
