don't get me wrong i see you've added profile pics and everything looks more fullscreen but all in all sam sh*t, no?
- Responsive and mobile friendly and with newer tech.monospaced
- At the moment, the 'newer tech' are jpg's. It's the tech that's missing.d0mino
- plus it's independent of qbn, which might not be around forever...exador1
- The point is that it would play nicely with phones/tablets... And would be under our control so wouldn't disappear suddenlyset

Make it invite-only. That's what all the cool sites do. You get one invite every 6 months, but you can't bank them.
- OSFA0
Invite only sites are only ok for the first two months. After that, everyone is there and the fun is gone...

yeah...so...front end looks nice...there is that pesky back-end that is still needing to be taken care of. Bueller? JK? anyone else i'm missing? i'm sure that massive data composition is sitting somewhere needing to be migrated.

cant believe this thread existed when i wrote that other thread about exit plan... weird, the exit plan thing just came to me in the shower, had no idea this thread had happened already. collective conciousness or what.
anyway, yeah that looks beautiful but damn it would be a lot of work to make functional. I could help but probably only a couple hours a week and this puppy would need a lot of weeks at that rate.
i also dont work with well classes and shit im still fairly noob despite knowing my way around specialized functions and general php / mysql relationships.
if you find someone more pro who can take more on, i can definitely relieve some of the workload on it and/or be assigned some menial php tasks to keep things moving faster. hit me at nate@3030.ca if im not responding on here fast enough.
- yes i was thinking about qbn in the shower today.mantrakid
- Don't worry, you are not alone:

Can someone link to the other thread about this design? There were a ton of good notes in there but I can't find it, even searching on Google.

I think I probably sound like a broken record on this subject, but all this pretty interface doodling ain't worth jack without all the technical doo-dads and data pocketing that a site such as this needs.
And no, I don't mean some half-arsed WP plugin that falls apart as soon as more than 3 people use it concurrently.
Also — cost? Decent hosting for a site for this to work well isn't free..! I'm sure people here would club in initially to get it running. but there needs to be some long-minded consideration of how it'd support itself.
Smoochie coochies,

ps. Me for Mod.
- I'd write off, immediately, the idea of migrating anything from here too. Sadly.detritus
- Anyone know where JK lives? I'm sure the mere contents of his wallet would support QBN2 for years to come...detritus
- Pretty interface doodling is what I do best, what you said is (obvious) true. I'm just putting it out there, why not...set
- It's just a bit of fun, but if anyone with the database and back end knowledge chimes in, then superb...set
- Not questioning you - more the effervescent ebullience in the responses — lots of designiks, no programniksdetritus
- Shyould probably ask Pylon about server loads, etc, on NTC, and then times by 4 for an initial estimate of trafficdetritus
- Also, who's the guy who runs YH! who has an account here? He'd be worth asking about traffic, etc.detritus
- Hah yes lots of detailed UX suggestions. Actually getting some kind of working forum built first might help!set

Also, in the other thread about this, we talked about organizing around topic groups. Can't remember what the consensus was on that, but I do remember that it created two different scenarios:
1) Arranged by threads as QBN currently works - with some threads expected to be gigantic and always growing (Gif OTC, COTD, What are you listening to, etc.)
2) Arranged by topic groups (ex: Web Design, Print Design, Help Needed, Photography, Music, etc.) - There's a benefit to this approach in that some things important to the person posting them (looking for help on something, for example) get lost in threads that grow in length, and only allow for comments to the right. However, there's a gray area when it comes to how we all expect some of the larger threads to work. I wouldn't expect people to post gifs as individual new threads - same for now listening, COTD, etc. Those work effectively as always growing threads.
Certain topics will lend better to users replying directly below the original post, like we do for many threads. A request for help, for example, follows a flow where the user posts their request, and people post replies to it, images, etc. and don't have to rely on just the comments tool for their message.
Just thinking through this in my head at the tail end of a boring meeting.
I could see a benefit to having some sort of hybrid forum structure as follows:
Topics + Individual threads - (open a topic, view infinite threads within sort of like we currently do). People are free to post relevant threads within a topic.
Topics that are a single thread - Visually represented similar to a Topic, but opens a single thread in which users can only add replies to that thread, and comments to individual replies. This works for the bigger threads, keeps people contained within them.Like I said, just some thoughts.

nice points mg33
also, having the possibility to select our ''Favorite threads" with a list of them on our profile page would be cool.
Talking about profile page. A simple public profile page would be cool. With our stats like we have on QBN. A brief intro and a pic. And links to our websites. And where we're from. Like the current QBN. Its cool i think.
