I'm placing RGB AI files into IndDesign and they look duller in InDesign and stay dull when I export them.
I have bright RGB colors and all my AI files are RGB. What's wrong?

usual CMYK colour profile nonsense.
I find if you stick with sRGB things play nicely. If going to print you should convert to CMYK, use correct colour profiles etc.

make sure you're working in RGB (document color mode) and that you're previewing in RGB (not CMYK)
- How do I set that in Indesign?freedom
- Edit menu > Color Setting / Assign profile / Convert to profilemonospaced

Edit > Transparency Blend Space > RGB
I don't know why Adobe has to make coordinating colors to challenging between applications.

and try to use pro photo rgb instead of sRGB whenever you can because it has a bigger gamut of color

They stay dull in a .pdf and .jpg?

Check your export settings. It can be a huge pain when things go wrong. I spent hours, days, going through trial/errors, new files, forums, etc. It's pretty ridiculous, imho. There should be a check box that says "export as original" or something like that.
Careful of photoRGB, I've ran into problems previewing it. Minor, but enough that I converted a bunch to AdobeRGB. Only bother with sRGB if you are viewing online ONLY (like Facebook, though they screw with the colors anyway).
- That's for OD's comment above, assumed he was still having problemsformed

On top of setting InDesign to RGB (see my side comment above), when you do export that PDF, make sure it's exporting as RGB as well because it defaults to CMYK. In the PDF export settings, go to the Output tab and you can set things right.

One last thing, InDesign might be in Proof Colors mode. Go to the View menu and make sure it isn't, and that it isn't set to CMYK in Proof Setup.

And once you've done all of that do a barrel roll... Make sure it's an RGB barrel roll for cacca sake!
