Curious, which Graphics Card is having the issue?

Mr.Bixler, your reel and other work on your site is amazing. Very inspiring indeed.

^ Thanks. In case anyone didn't catch the answer this is it.
Solution from MAXON:
"The problem is, the current graphics card driver from Apple is not able to use Cinema 4D's Editor Outline option correctly at the moment.
You'll need to deactivate it to use the Keyboard navigation without stalling. You'll need to press "Alt + V" and go to the Attribute manager under the Tab "Display" and uncheck "Outlines”."

I just use a proper 3 button mouse with a smooth wheel and combine it with alt/option. Never used 1, 2, or 3.

Half the time I try to control my view by holding down 1, 2 or 3 it doesn't work. I have to use the pan, zoom and spin icons at the top right of the view ports. This is less than joyful and creative expletives only get you so far. Has anyone been able to rectify this?
