You've got an idea for an app (one of many but you think this is strongest).
You really fancy learning Swift but are from a design background with a little AS2 script from flash "back in the day". It might be possible to learn enough to get cracking but it might take an age to build something!Plus, if you start to build something then need to add more functionality etc and get a 'real' programmer to work on it they may tell you to scrap it and start again.
Alternatively just design + wireframe it and pay someone to build the app for you?
(the drawback is obviously the monetary cost/investment rather than time investment)What you reckon?

depends imo. for me... i would personally tackle it myself. maybe map out some release milestones.
like for instance, i'm building an iOS game, slowly, and i know what i want it to ultimately be and i also know it will take a lot of time to get there. my plan is to release a minimally-featured version that is good enough. just to get it out there. maybe a free release. then continue on and add in new features based on what i know i want and what i will eventually learn my users might want based on that initial feedback.
a fool's journey some would say if you could just pay someone to blitz the grunt work. but i think with regard to app dev'ing not a whole lot is grunt work tbh, and nothing is really gonna get blitzed, lol.
and frankly, i want to be as cobra kai about these things as possible, i want to learn it. even though it's testing my code nerd limits.

I had another one about 18 months ago and someone thought of it about 6 months ago - damn it!- if you don't get on it pronto in 6 mod you'll be saying damn it all over again. do it!prophetone
