proof printer? laserjet? how much pages/year do you plan to print? what kind of paper does it need to print?
what exactly do you need it for and what are you willing to spend? has it got its own room etc etc?

We had a Laser OKI on my previous work. The quality was very similar to offset, but it had some problems with large areas of flat color on some paper types.

do you need archival... fine art...? or is it for presentations, where if it fades in 10 years that's fine...
It seems that the pigmented ink printers (archival, epson 3880,etc) are more hassle to clean the heads and keep running, but the non-archival printers are cheaper and tend to have punchier colors.... (i.e. epson 1500, canon 9000 series, etc)

Seems like I should have been more specific.
We are a web firm with 3 - 4 designers, who need to print out pages of the site to view on the wall in order to keep track of changes etc. So photo quality is not important but its always nicer to see your work presented as you will finally see it. Looking to spend anywhere up to $500.

then I would advise a laser printer, because 1px lines are a bitch to inkjet
