My old job back in '95. I would sit over my boss' shoulder and watch and then he would let me mess around when he was finished.

I learned in school, but continued studying with books or online.

What can you do besides the normal retouching, masking, gifs, etc?
- I can photoshop a mean reflection of your mom's face on a pair of my mad orbs. What kind of question is that, are you 8?josimar

It all started with Deluxe paint2 on my father's PC.
As for learning Photoshop, just the old trials&errors thing. I've always learned software in a very empirical way.

20 years ago, mostly self taught, Computer Arts helped, was in a an architecture studio with 40 other people learning, so that helped.
Recently, Kelby and books have been good for true photography (not design) based.

i learnt it by playing in ps battles here on qbn.. outside of this, i never had to touch the app ever in my career..

It was a step up from paint shop pro.
When layers became a thing it blew my mind. Before that I used paint.
No, really. The second "job" I got was illustrating equipment for a catalog using ms paint. win 3.How I learned photoshop was simply transfering the little I knew from paint, to psp, and then finally photoshop. And from there on just having fun using it.
Sidenote:
In the late 90ies they asked me to hold a class in the design collage I were at. As a student.
Later, after years working at various agencies and using it daily, I went back to university (for odd reasons). Photoshop was part of course, and the lady who held that class failed me. Something about my work not being "creative enough" (the other, younger kids filled business card with crude illustrations in which the type drowned). Funnily enough what I handed in was the exact layout from the worlds largest (single) ad agency who I had happened to work at before that university.

Was building websites for my gaming clan back then, must have been around '02-04. God damn I was a kiddie :D tried hundreds of 'free' image editing softwares until I finally discovered Photoshop.. Started with 7.0

Self taught. Fortunate really, I never once sat down and thought to myself 'I really need to learn this' like I'm currently doing with CSS. I was just passionate about design and spent hours, days, years playing around with it.

When the other twats in the house that I shared at University were out dancing to Underworld Born Slippy in foam parties. Me and my mate from my course spent hours messing round with it. You could finish a whole spliff while my 5320 added gaussian blur to a mask ;-)
GOOD TIMES!! LOL
The rest is 15 years of using it daily. Still probably know 10% of it's full ability. In that 15 years I have never used curves once. Fuck curves!!

same as you, breadlegz

Levels - When you want to get something fucking done
Curves - When a client is hovering over your shoulder
