I took up calligraphy to try and spark my creativity. Its helping a lot!
I needed to get back to making stuff with my hands instead of sitting in front of a computer all day.

“inspiration is for amateurs” and grit is the real key to creativity — or, as Tchaikovsky famously put it, “a self-respecting artist must not fold his hands on the pretext that he is not in the mood.”

Try making beats. Music and Shapes go hand in hand

cbass,
You're talking about the QBNPhE! This is a great idea. I think it could be a lot of fun. I'm going to email you about it. See if we can't get lvl_13 involved with his fancy site he makes for the photo exchanges.- yes, that's what I'm talking about. same idea but collages..that would be sweet.cbass99
- I already alerted lvl_13 and I'll put a post up tonight. We can figure it out through the threadcapn_ron
- Cool! Great job man!! Hopefully other people will jump on board. It could be a great thing for everyone! And get some cool art too!cbass99

yea, i guess unpluggin is the best advice i can give you, other than looking at other forms of art, like dance, music, painting etc.
also take a break and go explore natural places.
all these things sum up.

after my evening workouts at a local boxing gym, i often stop by a nearby starbucks. One of the regulars there has become a really good friend over the years. Everytime i bump into him there, he's sitting at a table with a laptop and a waccom tablet, drawing away....

the work on his site is a bit old (he's done a ton of newer amazing work) but the point is this.
he NEVER stops working.
that guy is fucking relentless. he's like the fucking energizer bunny.
just watching him week in, week out, drawing as if his life depended on it is pretty fucking inspiring.

Capn_ron, Idea just hit me after reading all of this...
We should do a Collage Challenge like that one Photography thing where everyone was on a list and sent each other shit..That would be rad and something to make you start doing it.
All you need is some good thick paper (I was buying some heavy Rag quality from DB but it was super expensive) some glue or paste from DB and some old mags.
It's a great way to stay creative and not be attached to a computer.

Bust out them paints and some paper and allow yourself to majorly screw up in phase one of creating. then try to make it look as pretty as peaches. commence to phase three and allow yourself to screw up your pretty painting. then make it pretty again. rinse and repeat until emotionally happy.
try out something new like oilpastels, dirt, or melting crayons over he-man figures. make a skull out of cheetos.
i also find cooking helps getting inspired. drink a beer, smoke a joint, listen to some dub and then some metal.
get hyphy, aim for the best, expect the worst.
collaborate with a bum.
paint a painting upside down, looking at it backwards, through a mirror.
find jesus in everything.- as funny as this post is it has great ideas. thanks dasohr. The whole screwing up thing sounds fun actually.capn_ron

I have rather enjoyed listening to the Adventures in Design pod casts. Their backgrounds lean more towards poster and print design, which is a nice change from the web design/dev environment I sit in all day. After listening to them I often find myself more inspired to work on stuff at home.
Also been playing around with block printing and what not, which is fun and a completely different creative outlet then the day job.

cbass,
your collage idea makes me want to do an art night with some friends. We've all talked about it, but this would be a good way for everyone to bring in some magazines and we could just glue away and hang out and make it fun. Thanks.

I used to go out, sit on a bench and look at people walking by and try to guess what they do, lifestory, etc, this had nothing to do with mentalism or some bs, but it helped me greatly invent some crazy stories + you can do it with someone else for a good laugh,
For creativitiy, as I mentioned before, I gave myself a challenge, that also helped a lot with my creativity,

Get some iPhone apps like Diptic, mirrorgram, pxl, image blender! and blur, and start making images and collages with your phone. There are so many constraints to them that I find them really fun in how you can't do everything. I found that when I was making lots of geometric images on my phone, it influenced new stuff in Photoshop, and it was easier because I approached it with the same limits as the apps.
And, it's nice to be able to make stuff anywhere on a phone.

Hey Capn_Ron, I was doing this for a while...I'd go on hikes or walks with my dogs in SD and find wood in random places and then go home and paint it. Kind of like this..http://www.emilkozak.com/s...
Or make some collages from old magazines?
