I saw it.
It is ok. Not great.
It looks amazing for the most part. The acting is good, and it has polish. Just sitting there in a cinema, seeing that kind of cyberpunk imagery brought to life with a Hollywood budget is incredible.
But, the story is weak and bastardised. The pacing is off. The directing of the action has zero tension. There's some cool moments, but it's hard to care.
No stakes, no tension. Doesn't make you want to watch it again.
Annoying as there are some great images - especially with Batou and beat takeshi as the Chief. And the villain in the hood, pretty damn well done. And Scarlet has this whole way she moves that is really interesting.... But then... it just all feels super flat and a bit boring.
They found a director who can execute a visual to a T. But who doesn't really understand structure or character. Kind of like a lot of those filmmakers who make great looking CGI Vimeo short films... but there is zero emotion or storytelling.
Oh and the music is bland as fuck. Really bothered me.
- The trailers are incredibly boring too.monospaced
- Sounds like every Holliwood filmyuekit
- like you say there's no depth in anything but the stone island-looking warddrobe. They literally change clothes for every scene.ArchitectofFate
- they just made one of the most complex movies of my childhood and made it into an action movie. fuckin' Bonneville Salt Flats flat.ArchitectofFate
- This review is spot on, saw it last night. Visuals are amazing, very cool but where's the score? Where's the character depth?prophetone

Thought it was good. It don't better the original but it's good. The reviews however now are way over the top. You take Scarlett Johansson out the lead role, replace it with a Japanese actress and no one even pays any attention to this film. She's perfect for the role.

So I'm new to this whole "ghost in the shell" thing.
Just to clarify, are we talking about a chicken ghost in an egg shell?
or a like, er, a tortoise ghost in a tortoise shell?
When does the ghost get out of it's shell?
Oh! I get it, is it a confidence thing? Like the ghost is shy and needs to get out of it's shell, get out a bit more?

- It's interesting, the amount of constraint on his side working on it for 2 years, kinda semi-talking about it(but not really) every other weekArchitectofFate

Just saw it. The thing that annoyed me the most was how empty the city feels. The exterior scenes are lighten in way that makes it feel like an old/cheap sitcom exterior scene shot in studio.
It made the whole movie lifeless IMO.
