Anyone have examples of good sites that use Squarespace as a platform? Or do most people just use the templates as is?

I got a template and tweaked it a bit. I didn't want to pay a ton to change everything. Too expensive.

We almost used Squarespace for a site we just built... ended up going back to Wordpress, because Squarespace wants you to use their specific tools for things like Slideshows, etc.
Overall it's great as long as you just re-skin and position all of their CMS blocks without grabbing custom Javascript libraries, etc. Unfortunately, it messes with your workflow if you like to use things like Foundation and Bootstrap... they aren't really compatible.
You can use whatever you want if you don't mind it not being editable by the CMS... but then... that's the whole point of using Squarespace in the first place.

If there's only so many templates, do you think there's a lot of clone sites out there? Do you think Squarespace is really intended for people who don't want to have a custom site and want to save money?

I've seen (and made) plenty of sites that extensively rewrite and amend Squarespace's CSS to get a good custom look.
Most lower-demand clients will accept some of the widget constraints in light of how friendly the content management is, as well as how much goddamn easier the e-commerce is to integrate into the general site.

Why don't you lazy sons of bitches build a real website instead of using this template wysiwyg shit?

^ Because sometimes I need a tool that's useable after 10 hours of work instead of 200. Not all of us prefer to swing five-figure contracts for every proposal.

Question to whoever has worked on SquareSpace sites or that might know...
Can you add full bg video to these templates?
