My question form years ago regarding AI generated ML/VR content is starting to get an answer :)

OpenAI Unveils A.I. Technology That Recreates Human Voices
“We recognize that generating speech that resembles people’s voices has serious risks. We hope to start a dialogue on the responsible deployment of synthetic voices, and how society can adapt to these new capabilities,” it said. “Based on these conversations and the results of these small scale tests, we will make a more informed decision about whether and how to deploy this technology at scale.”

Not the wrong thread.
- to the "Sky is falling Sky is flalling!"-posting bozo.Nairn
- This is a really interesting story but notice how it didn't require AI or any high-tech capabilities. They got a scientist to write a fake paper and plantedyuekit
- a few articles in the media.
https://archive.org/…yuekit - ^^Exactly.Nairn
- The modern day equivalent...
https://mediamanipul…yuekit - It does go on to mention the impact of the internet, but I suppose a main takeaway here is how effective the 80/20 plausibility/bullshi... ratio is.Nairn
- "A Lie Can Travel Halfway Around the World While the Truth Is Putting On Its Shoes". Except these days it's ten times around the world's every nook.Nairn
- The thing about AI is that if you are using a photo or video as the key evidence, at some point people will probably evaluate it and figure out that it's fake.yuekit
- Evidence? Have you seen what the standard of evidence the Average Joe or Jane requires?Nairn
- Whereas an idea or a rumor like "AIDS leaked from a lab" is difficult to disprove completely. You can explain why it's unlikely but people will always beyuekit
- drawn to conspiracies like this.yuekit
- Maybe I'm overestimating the public and they will really be duped by stuff like a fake Sora video but it seems like the real impact could be more subtle andyuekit
- insidious than that... i.e. use generative AI to astroturf thousands of comments. But you're right that it's probably not good :)yuekit
- No, that's exactly it! AND whatever developments will happen with Image/Video going forward. Swamped by nonsense. The complete abborgation of truthNairn
- Actually, perhaps the most insiduous one is mere simple audio, given how comprehensively political actors' voices are recorded.Nairn

@Wagshaft just a follow up to you earlier post about an AI policy at your work hope this helps kinda mirrors what we've seen on our end from bigger clients.
- "Brands also don’t want agency partners using AI in ways that could jeopardize their own intellectual property."jonny_quest_lives
- "For instance, if a brand’s customer information were fed into an AI system, that data could train a model that a competitor might use."jonny_quest_lives

Scientific Journal Publishes AI-Generated Rat with Gigantic Penis In Worrying Incident
AI-generated images in a new academic paper included a rat with a gigantic penis; a peer reviewer who spoke to Motherboard said it wasn't their concern.- paper had no illustrations so they threw in some nonsensical AI images as a joke, the reviewers found the images funny. twitter couldn't understand that AI is akingsteven
- meme or the content of the paper or that Chinese academics have a sense of humor -> OUTRAGE -> journal forced to remove paper.kingsteven
- Vice publishes an article which has no response from academics because academics don't care what you think. That makes it look like AI has infiltratedkingsteven
- academia. When the entire content of the article is the terrible midjourney photo of the rat with a big cock. Only proving it was funny in the first place.kingsteven

anyone figured out these crazy workflow thingies people are showing on ticktock? they all seemt o be hooked into gpt etc

One disconnect IMO is that these technologies are being positioned as something that will change the world, revolutionize entire industries, kill all of us etc...but typing in text prompts feels like a weirdly inefficient method.
It's fine when you just want to generate something like with these Sora demos but most of the time with work you need to create something specific.
- Typing text prompt is going to be replaced by something else or it's going to be easier.
This is just the beginning.ApeRobot - Yeah, probably voice prompting in a few years - ask Siri and you shall receive...grafician
- ...or that scene from Blade Runnergrafician
- Voice prompting is basically the same thing. Maybe I'm wrong and this will still be how it's done in the future but IMO using informal language is neveryuekit
- going to be a very efficient approach. Imagine trying to generate a website or create a film just through prompting.yuekit
