a couple more quick points...
* thanks so much to everyone here for the advice.
* i ended up with a number i thought the client would go for and then i broke it down piece by piece to figure out my rate. when i looked at the parts of the project and all the image editing that was required i upped the price from 8k to 10k. So now i have a rate for pages and images when she needs to adjust things going forward.

estimates are the key , scope out the project , how many hours do you estimate it will take you. then apply your rate
I would estimate a web developer at about (60) hrs for a custom bottoms up template with word press template customization options (options in word press for the theme), also 60 hrs

hrly rate how much is your time worth , not what johnny charges , would you really want to give up an hr to write code or go do something else?? (get drunk, fk women, video games etc)=
