So, I want to start making more Gifs, but I can never get them as sharp as others I've seen around.
Here's one of mine:
And one from someone else:
Ideally, for them to play on Tumblr, you need to make them under 1mb. So the main idea is keep them shorter than 5secs maybe?
But still, mine after saving for web in photoshop they get super compressed, are there better tools to save them?

Here's a basic tutorial on how to make them in PS.
Don't forget to switch 'Play Once' to 'Loop Forever'

The problem with yours is that absolutely every pixel in the image is changing each frame because of your noisy moving background.
The other one is cleverly mostly black.
also 4 seconds is really fucking long for a GIF, the other gif has almost looped 4 times by the time yours has played once. Good gifs are about using the disadvantages of the format cleverly.

Aye - moving noise = gif size killer. Keep as much of the information in the image as constant and as unchanging throughout as you can.
Also - and I've been on/off making animated gifs for longer than I care to think about - I didn't really appreciate 'til quite recently how much control over the framerate Photoshop offers. You can get that refresh rate well into decimals before it starts spacking out.

^ Some browsers wont honour higher framerates because of epilepsy concerns

^^ safari & ie limited to 16fps, the rest limited to 50fps
so, just don't go below 0.0625 in PS

Making animated gifs is a real art and pain in the ass to create.
Is there anyone out there known for creating kick-ass animated gifs?
