Surprise! that didnt take long.
My list of 'wtf' is too long on this, butThey filed for this back in august. back when no one could have had any real idea of the impact of any cryptocurrency. So they wanted to patent something they really had no clue about.
The fact that anyone would shrug a shoulder when a major bank, specifically one of the most corrupt there is, now probably half owned by China or some other country, comes out with their 'own' digital currency and payment system, is beyond me.
There is a big 'yeah, ok' when it comes to this because we are talking about a century+ old bank that loves stealing and laundering money. No way will this 'new' currency be secure to the end consumer, because that would defeat the entire montra of any banking system. And the fact that they felt the need to patent something like this, proves to me that our govt, and the banking systems have no clue what cryptocurrency is even about.
Bitcoin, and other cryptos are used so they almost self police, thus, taking OUT the middleman banks. I guess they didnt read about how it works.
BC is worth what its worth now because of consumers, not banks. I hope someone comes to their senses and tells them they cant patent anything like this.

to clarify, its not patenting Bitcoin as we know it, but a look-alike.
- thanks Xdbloc
- not even a look a like, its a payment system. bitcoin is traded hence it is not a payment system.2002
- if bitcoin or ANY crypto uses a wallet system in the future, it could be a legal problem. and i hate to tell you, but bitcoin is used for p2p payments.xpxhxoxexnxixx

doesnt matter whether its just like bitcoin or not. If bitcoin were to use a wallet system in the future that was anything like JP's, theyd get sued no doubt.
And no one knows exactly what they filed for. it could be a currency, it could be a digital wallet system, or both.- < who would get sued? Bitcoin is not an entity or a company.Krassy
- good point. but i could see alot of individuals being sent DOS or getting arrested for continuing to use a " bitcoin wallet" on their sitexpxhxoxexnxixx
- what if you have no money just bitcoin how are they going get $ from you?yurimon

"And no one knows exactly what they filed for"
Patent search is public info but saying they patented it vs filed are two very different thing

Would it be possible to just patent Bitcoin itself?
Or does the fact that it's used by the public prevent that?

The scary part here should be that giant banks are starting to patent how digital money changes hands.
Software patents are supposed to be harder to get because of the complexity of their operating nature.- my bank only allows bitcoin transfers via smoke signal more codeprophetone

are they going to patent a shoebox for it?
