Monsanto’s about to celebrate their biggest coup ever, but we’ve got until the weekend to stop them.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a huge, ultra-secret deal among twelve major countries that would give corporations unprecedented power -- allowing them to use new global tribunals to sue our governments for passing laws that protect us, but reduce their profits! This could apply to everything from labeling GMO foods to protecting internet freedom. Wikileaks has broken the story and opposition is building fast, but the countries are rushing to seal the deal in 48 hours.
This is insane, but we have a chance to stop it -- 3 countries are wobbling, and if they pull back now the whole deal could crumble. If we deluge leaders in Chile, New Zealand and Australia with a global call to stand strong, we can stop this corporate takeover before Monsanto uncorks the champagne. Sign up now and share this with everyone:
I'm wondering what other corporations besides Monsanto have a big interest in this. I'm thinking possibly oil and gas companies. There's been a lot of issues around fracking recently so I'm wondering if this gives these companies broader powers to manipulate government regulation of this practice. I don't know if this is related though, is it?
Another one would be large entertainment and media companies with big copyright interests.
I noticed a lot of people don't really understand this and I was one of them. This is what the formation of a international Corporatocracy is looking like, goodbye democracy hello globalized fascism. Its really unsettling.
That crummy site The Blaze had an article yesterday about how Obama is pushing this. There are 22 Republicans against it, so can I assume then that the rest of the Republicans are FOR it? It really irks me that they didn't even once mention the Republican support for it, but that would go against The Blaze's agenda of making everything about, and only about, Obama.
- that's just Glen Beck... dude think he's a prophet... ... blow that nonsense off :)PonyBoy
- i was being a facetious there... :) Truth be told... these last 6 years have shown me that both sides truly are on the same sidePonyBoy
- ... obviously not our sidePonyBoy
They (corporations, gov, bankers) need fascism and control in order to survive in this technological and info age Thats why they try to legislate fascism. Practically this is nothing new historically. Population control in through malnutrition of masses, and creating a psychopathic society as way of destruction while they make money from the war, death that is brought on.
I'm trying to figure out what do on this one. it seems its not going through regular political venues. almost completely neglectful of true legality of how these agreements can lawfully be done. No one in high politics is impeachable it seems or accountable...
"Imagine this seemingly outrageous scenario: You find yourself ill and take yourself to the doctor. The doctor has a hunch that you have a certain illness, but is unable to properly diagnose you as the diagnostic methods used are patented by a large uncaring medical corporation.
You break open the rainy day kitty and go to a doctor that has paid for the required patent licenses to diagnose you. At an exorbitant cost, he diagnoses you and declares that you need surgery, but guess what? The surgical method is also under patent protection and you will again find yourself searching for a surgeon with the required patent licenses.
Sadly, no such doctor exists in Australia, and you're once again forced to open that quickly dwindling kitty to fly yourself to the United States.
Welcome to a world where the TPP has been ratified."
Fascism is alive and well.. and its not Governments..
its funny, back in the day, the Fascists were Governments because they were the most powerful. By corporations are far more powerful now.
Chomsky of the day™
an opponent of the secretive Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track the Pacific Rim trade deal Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP)—went inside the secret room inside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday morning to read the TPP text and told Breitbart News exclusively afterwards that he believes President Barack Obama should make it public now.
If you're a Euro, consider reading up on TTIP and see whether you're happy with the concept of commercial concerns from one country being able to sue the government of another country over any democratically-pronounced legislation in that country. Think health, energy and environmental concerns.
Me, I just signed this:
I got an email this morning saying that the https://stop-ttip.org/ I signed a couple of weeks back has hit 2 Million Signatures, which means that the Powers that be are legally bound to consider its concerns*.. however, the weight of people's intent on this matter still needs to be encouraged, to ensure that the
nastier aspects of the TTIP, the 'corporate courts', is focused on.
If you haven't already, and are a EU citizen who gives a shit, sign here: https://stop-ttip.org/ if you have already signed up, you can further ensure that the politican's focus on the Corporate legalese bullshit here: http://www.no2isds.eu/
(this last one appears to spam *every* MEP, which seems a little counter-productive - you can use the following tool to find MEPs relevant to your location/political consideration: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/me… )
