1) I always made the dropdowns myself, it's really easy to customize the Autonav Block.
To customize the Autonav, just copy the YourSiteFolder/concrete/blocks/a... to YourSiteFolder/blocks/autonav/te...
If you look at that view.php, there's a lot of comments to help you customize it and add features.2) I never used any pre-made themes and I never used a responsive framework. Ah. Great help I know..
Look here for a theme, check the responsive filter on the right (last one)
http://www.concrete5.org/marketp…You have a Bootstrap Pack for Concrete5 with lots of things from what I see here (with discount if you take whole bundle), but I never used any of that so I can't say much: http://www.concrete5.org/marketp…

YourSiteFolder / concrete / blocks / autonav / view.php
YourSiteFolder / blocks / autonav / templates / your_template.php

I always embed the Autonav in the theme, much better than adding it to a default.
here's the code (it's also on that cheat sheet above):

If you want a really simple dropdown, create a new autonav template like I explained in the first reply, then uncomment lines 81-84 and choose it as your custom template.
then add this JS to the head of your theme:
http://pastie.org/8460020then add this to your css:
li.nav-dropdown{
position: relative;
}
.nav-dropdown ul{
float: none;
margin: 0!important;
padding: 0;
position: absolute;
}
.nav-dropdown ul li{
display: block!important;
float: none !important;
margin: 0 !important;
padding: 0;
clear: both !important;
width: 200px;
}(there's unnecessary css there, but I had to override some default theme stuff to make it right)
here's the default theme with this working.. (really barebones but you get the idea)
