I want to set up a wireless media streaming system at home, between my iMac and two TVs, with support for Netflix and a wide variety of file formats. A USB port for playing directly off a drive would be a bonus.
(As I understand it, support for various file formats means Apple TV is not an option.)
What does that leave me with? WDTV? Boxee? Whatever Roku is?

Raspberry pi and openelec or raspmc, but they can't run netflix.- Why would you need NetFlix if you can have XBMC & XBMC Hub? its free for starters and has more.sem

Rasp Pi, as Ian said, doesn't currently run Netflix stabe as Netflix is deliberately made not available for Linux.
Android Pi is getting better though, and Android runs Netflix and XBMC. I'm not sure about XBMC's Netflix plugin though.
An alternative is to get a cheap Android stick that plugs into your HDMI.

You can get them for around £30 and sometimes less, and the better ones run XBMC and Netflix just fine. It's far less work than setting up a Pi.

Further to my post about Android sticks. I was using an unbranded one I got from a market for about 6 months for £30 and it worked great. I've switched back to using a full-powered laptop as I use it for gaming now.
The one I had was from the low end of the spectrum and it worked very well with my movie collection (mostly 720p MKV) but struggled on most 1080p movies. I can't vouch for Netflix as I don't use it.

I went with WDTV Live. The UI and remote as nice (or responsive) as Apple TV's, and I had to cobble together a quick workaround to get streaming from my iMac working (WDTV and Snow Lion don't play nice), but it was cheaper and I don't have to worry about file formats or third party apps to make them work.

WDTV Live firmware just updated so it's compatible with Mountain Lion for sharing files over the local network without using Linux NFS.

Raspberry Pi with XBMC = Nothing better, esp for price.
I have Apple TV 2 with XBMC but going to sell it and buy 3 Rasp Pi's with the money.
