You have to click to enable flash content including ads. You have to right click on the ad to enable the flash version.
Only flash video gets special protection. Flash ad designers beware.
It really is sad to see them go after a technology with so much aggression.

yeah, html5 is teh future. keep in mind tho, the limited safari penetration isn't really guiding these things. flash is still relevant for ads. for the time being.
- ze future, if you have the right browser...GeorgesIV
- haha well in the future there is only one browser, probs solvedprophetone

YES!!! Finally, a browser that stops these flash ads from popping up. What's more aggressive is these companies spending all their money to make my online experience a total miserable advertisement.

some would say that alot of the delivered experience depends on said ads. but let's not get into that knife fight.

they are calling it 'safari power saver' . I would grant them that if we were talking about mobile devices but laptops? really?
It's a shot at google. Why not detect first to see if your laptop is plugged in? Pretty soon they'll do the same on HTML5 ads that consume too much cpu.

^ how is a Flash blocker a shot at Google and not Adobe? If they block ads that consume too much CPU, thus giving me more power to my devices, then isn't that a good thing?

Fair enough since this is the way any java applet is treated.

where's that "designer destroyed the world" thread.
should be updated to apple users destroyed the world, the fact that none of you know that adblockers exist is kinda appalling

- yes, and yes.doesnotexist
- If everyone knew about AdBlock, it wouldn't exist. .nb

Rad. Maybe I'll switch back to Safari.

Safari is a really small percentage of desktop browsers. HTML5 ads will be even worse than Flash ads (we're basically going back to all of the issues we had with Flash when it first started). And, Safari doesn't have an ad-blocker specifically, it's sandboxing plugins. So you'll get HTML5 ads. Same shit, different technology, except now you'll have animated ads on your iDevice that weren't there before since Flash doesn't work on the iDevice but HTML5 does. Perhaps Apple is trying to get companies to buy into their ecosystem through ads. And just in case you weren't aware of how Google makes almost ALL of their loot, it's ads. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple went in that direction.
- but... but.... my 5mb banner converted in google swiffy from flash is slowing down my phoneGeorgesIV

I think maybe in two/three years time most ads will be HTML. But the fact that most media companies still only accept AS2 banners and still not AS3 (go figure!).. well maybe it's going to take much much longer.
I still do a lot ads in Flash to keep my cashflow going and I believe ad design is a craft just like everything else.
Apart from that, I think classic banner ads will most likely evolve into interactive video, and more product-placement-ish stuff like Instagram is planning to do so..

the answer to all of this is simple my friends. just install 'linked in intro'.
