"What has been the best customer service that you've received recently/why... and what has been the worst, and why" - for a UI gig.The last part was a tough one for me.

*that you've given, and the worst you've received.

I think it's a relevant question, but probably hard to answer on the spot. I'm always afraid someone is going to ask me "what are your favorite websites?" and I'll not have any in mind. Ask me what sites or user experiences I don't like, and I'll be ready to go.

- Tell them Apple. They'll appreciate your bold honesty.ukit2

What has to happen for you to know you’ve hired the best person?

"Our whole site runs on Dreamweaver with a jQuery backend. Are you confident with HTML5 and SC3?"
This was for a job for a fairly successful B2C company that had been up and running for 5 years or so, and the person that asked it was the Digital Manager.

probably no question at all... for my current job, I came to visit, meet some people, they asked what kind of workspace I would need. I kept wondering when they'd ask some probing questions aimed at finding out whether or not I was actually qualified or had just lied on my resume. Nope, they'd already decided to hire me even before we had met (found out later that they'd never checked my references either). I got a bad feeling about the situation, thinking, wow, they could easily hire a raving maniac if his resume looks good and he can put up a friendly front for a few hours... Sure enough, a month later, they hired a raving maniac with a deceptive resume who has made my life here rather hellish for the last year and will ultimately be the number one reason I cite when I leave.

I got an HR bod for my first round interviewer for a job and it hadn't gone well at all, she spent nearly the whole interview staring at a clip board, zero personal connection. Close to the end of the interview (come to think of it, the proximity to the end of the interviewer might have had something to do with my answer), after a raft of dull box ticking questions, none of which had anything to do with creative; she hit me with the classic cliché:
'Give me five words your friends might use to describe you'
I kind of snapped and calmly replied 'Doesn't. Like. Ridiculous. Pointless. Questions.' I counted out the words on my fingers too - what a prick! I admit that was a shitty answer but I kind of knew I wasn't getting through the HR firewall on that occasion.
She just nervously laughed and pretty quickly got to the 'Thanks for coming we'll be in touch'
