Anyone recommend a Nas Drive for home PC backup?
Prefer to have a Raid drive so that it's double backed-up.

I've got a Synology setup that seems to be good (so far). Good customer support.

so far so good.

Lightroom doesn't write to network drives, is there any good non-NAS, preferably USB 3.0 solution?
I had terrible experience with Lacie recently, looking for something reliable (will bump a Lacie rant thread for it because it's worth a posting alone).

Currently considering either synology dsj or Lacie 2big. Would be interested to hear reasons why either of those might or might not be a good idea.

Thanks for the info.
Synology ds213j seems like a really good buy, especially with all the extras you can download as apps for the drive and also for access/uploading from iphone etc.Their brand seems to get good reviews and writeups from techies.
They are also constantly updating their OS.

Synology has by far the best management UI. I bought 3 before it and returned them all based on how ridiculous it was to mange all the permissions/partitions/users. Synology makes it all easy, and I've been running 24/7 for over a year with no downtime.
I'm running this: http://www.synology.com/products…they also have a great expansion path mapped out if you need more storage later.

I have a solution based on Windows Home Server, self-built.
Case: BitFenix Prodigy (Looks like a small mac pro)
Mini-ITX-Board, Raid-Controller and PSU - add up to 6 Drives. Done.Cost me around $600, including 6x 2TB Drives and the license for the Server OS. Can now access Win office via Browser, Phone or Desktop from anywhere and have every office files synced on every device without hassle. Also runs a webserver for development. Also used as fileserver and backup, of course.
- €600, not $mekk
- Im not techy at all so setting up this kind of thing would be a nightmare.microkorg
- then go for the synology, ds213j or 213+ should do the job. Be aware - 4x 2TB drives in secure mode make 2TB memory overall because its mirroredmekk
- overall because its mirroredmekk
- yup, know this will only be 2tb. i might get 2x3's :)microkorg
