No I take that back. Airplay lets you play anything off your device, chrome cast doesn't. Only sanctioned apps and devices.
- Airplay is limited to specific apps toomonospaced
- I like that it's on Audible, but hate that it's not on Spotifymonospaced

finally I know the rules
"The ice bucket challenge requires accepting a challenge within 24 hours before pouring ice into a bucket of water. The bucket is then lifted and poured over a participant’s head. After that, the participant can call out a challenge to others. If the person refuses, they have to donate $100 to an ALS charity"

I have a 2nd gen Apple TV. They are now worth more than the original asking price and sought after more than the 3rd generation for two amazing reasons...
Jailbreak + XBMC
You can't get no better, it runs XBMC better than Rasp Pi and other options. Plus you get AirPlay.

Chromecast rooted, this will lead to more functionality in the future

Love these things, we have one in every bedroom. The quality of the HD is perfect on any Netflix YouTube or Vimeo videos. Also pandora works perfect.
I can play something from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and still use my phone to browse the internet and use any other app on my phone, not sure about a phone calls though. I do not notice a battery drain on my phone while watching shows ether. We have been using these more often since a couple of our "smart" TV's have a real clunky user interface when trying to use Netflix.
Last night before bed my wife and I were watching the 2014 news fails compilation youtube vid from vid of the day thread and in the middle of it I got up with the phone, went downstairs and out to my car in the driveway to grab something. I figured it would stop transmitting and drop the connection but five minutes later I went back in the bedroom and the video was still playing seamlessly. Impressive!
Also we picked up four of these during cyber monday for $22 each!
- Chromecast has been playing through my iPhone for 3+ hours. Only 3% battery usage.organicgrid
- This is because it actually does not stream from your device. It acts as a remote and tells Chromcast what to fetch from internet.GRAC
- internet. Try using Youtube with 2 devices. You can set up queues etc...pretty cool.GRAC
- streaming video buffers a minute or so in advance - so if you were only briefly outside it would have no effect. if you had stayed outside longer it would have.fadein11
- sorry I was referring to when you lose connection on YouTube or something - it will play for around a minute before stopping.fadein11

- and? why would they help their competitors win?
having said that - surprised they would ban Apple TV - it's shit.fadein11 - well, they have been selling them so far, Apple TV is the 4th best selling at the moment, Chromecast the 2nd (in Amazon US)ernexbcn
- what's next? ban Netflix from using Amazon Web Services? dat shit crayernexbcn

Got an Apple TV in the living room and love it. Can't wait for the new one. Got a Chromecast for the bedroom, used it a few times and each time buffering would take forever, then once something did play it would buffer again throughout. I don't know if it was due to streaming through the app/iPhone or if the wifi in our bedroom was just crappy, but it sucked.
Ended up swapping the Chromecast for an Amazon Fire Stick and have been using that instead. So much better. Apps run off of the stick instead of being streamed through my phone. Tons of content. And just as cheap I think.
Plus the new Chromecast design looks like the Beats by Dre logo.

- Got a 4k model, and it is MUCH faster than the processor in my Smart TV. I can put up with inaccurate recommendations to get faster YouTube, Netflix and PlexBuddhaHat
- Annoying that you have to click the volume over and over, you can't just hold the button down. Overall it's absolutely worth the money.BuddhaHat
- Thanksmaquito
- You get ads in the interface plus bloatware. Its slow AF. No Dolby Vision and no Atmos processing. It’s basically a piece of shit.monospaced
- Coulda spent a few more bucks and at least for a roku which is also shitty but good if you’re too fucking cheap to get an Apple TV.monospaced
- But if you don’t really care about the best picture and dont have a need for atmos I guess it’s fine.monospaced
- It’s fine then! thanks for your kindness, asshole.maquito
- It’s fine. I’m not an asshole though.monospaced
- I know, it was a friendly “asshole” :)maquito
- Have them on every TV in the house. They work great. Nice usable UI toofyoucher1
- I like the UI, and the experience setting it up was pretty nice as well.maquito
- I think it's objectively not slow AF, when navigating between apps and particularly using Plex it's insanely fast. For the fraction you pay it's not a POSBuddhaHat
- and if you're not an Apple ecosystem person then getting an Apple TV is a stupid idea.BuddhaHat
