....so after all that I'll now be spending two nights in NY (17th and 18th of this month). If anyone's keen for beers let me know, or point me in the direction of a decent NYC recommendations thread, there must be loads of them.

The travel company I booked through is supposed to be getting back to me with alternative flight options today so I can hopefully change the flight. They also suggested you can probably just go on standby if you miss the flight and get on the next one. I'm not so keen to go with a suggestion based on "probably"

what'd you end up doing?

If your plane goes over Newark, just stand up and say you have a bomb...and I'm sure they'll land where you want.

Well shit. Thanks for all advice then fellas. Looks like I'll be in town for a day or two on next month, July 17. NYC beers it is!

Hektor also said he was in town this week. It might be a perfect time for drinks.

Oh, no way you can make it if you include customs. Def make a NYC pit stop. QBN drinks!

Have you considered swimming across the hudson?

^ good bet. best bet if no traffic and or an accident on the road. prob be costly in car service fee's best to call ahead. any other method will take at least 1:40 to 2 hours or more on top of your processing time in arrival.

i know a cab from newark to central park, for instance, costs over $100 with typical tip, so i can only imagine how much more it would be going the extra distance.
all i can say is hopefully the cab's air conditioner will be working

Have a car service waiting for you. and go Belt parkway- through staten Island to Newark. Might work.

What's customs like at JFK in the afternoon? I totally forgot you'd be coming in on an international flight, right?
Fascinating thread. We're all behind you!
- Correct, so going through customs is going to add a bit to by time at least. That is, granted they let me in at allshapeaspect

You know, I completely forgot that I had to once take a cab from JFK to Newark when I was in town for FlashForward in 2001. Was staying in Staten Island the first week, went with a friend to JFK as he was flying back to Texas, then took a cab to Newark to meet up with another friend who was flying in from Texas that I was staying with in the city. And yeah, I remember that taking FOREVER.

Find a hipster with a fixed gear bike drive thru traffic, God knows that Brooklyn & Queens is loaded with plenty of them!

So there you have it, it can't be anymore clear. Rent a helicopter.

I drive all over the 5 boroughs and over all the hudson river crossings often. I've had to pick up my sister at JFK at 5pm and drive 20 miles to south Jersey over the Verazzano and it's taken 2.5 hours in traffic. Crosstown Manhattan, Canal to Holland Tunnel from JFK is at least 2 hours, and to even think of Van Wyck > Whitestone Bridge > Cross Bronx > GW Bridge > Turnpike South > Newark Airport is a 3+ hour drive at that time.
You need to find someone with a motorcycle (cut through traffic), that's the only way you'll make it if you need to drive over a bridge.
