I have to agree with utopian and others.
Design for the web is boring, repetitive, and uninspiring.
Doesn't even compare to the innovation and experimentation that happened from 1997-2003
- What design needs is a brand new technology to play with, like Flash was in those days. Something completely new.Continuity
- HTML5, CSS and JavaScript aren't it, though. They're just gradual evolutions of old hat.Continuity

So the totality of design is blog design now? That's fucking depressing.
- fresnobob0
Woah, you mean trends change?
- monospaced0
I thought this was going to be about design, and then I find out it's just about websites. What a fucking let down.
- Shoulda titled it "Is website design not as lame as last week?"monospaced
- LOL
+1, mate!
Also, happy Friday!Continuity - Seriously. You too man.monospaced

One of the perils of an all-out spend on the best website is that it may cost you (as per the example up there) 30k, and be amazing, but in two year's time, it may need doing again because of technical changes, or because it became a benchmark much emulated and therefore swallowed by copyists, or it might just end up looking very dated, very quickly.
- make $ with changes and updates yomekk
- When I mentioned perils, I meant for the client, not the designer.Horp
- isn't this true and hasn't this been true for the internet since the beginning?doesnotexist

Basically the only (2) website worthy of bookmarking this year:
- good stuff by http://www.is-real.n… I mean the second oneFatal
- I found the first site a couple weeks ago and loved it.mg33
- is there a template i could use with those design features? lolyurimon

Even these new HTML5, Parallax style websites are now a dime a dozen, and yes design is still dead. Just about every last website that I have seen in the past year on the following website portals (site inspire, the best designs, css awards, etc...) all look and function the same. There is little to no innovation on the web... don't believe the hype!

You're just looking at more things now.
That's like saying there's more politicians than you remember when you were a kid.

Hard to determine objectively whether that's true but hey...start writing and talking about and maybe it will happen:)

mekk ... it has yeah. But I sense that companies are going to get fed up with their stuff looking like everyone elses and being non effective. Which is what happens with cheap design.
I've done work recently with a PR guy and his client was happy to spend over £30,000 on a website. Which was refreshing.

(Good) design has become available for the masses and non-designers and is therefore cheap.

Yeah, what I meant was more of a movement in the corporate world.
It's a bit like when desktop printers came out and the companies assumed they could do their own print design. Which led to abominations in stationery, brochures etc.
The same seemed to happen online with Wordpress...
Now it's time for designers to help these companies navigate back to having proper, well thought out, well designed sites created.

Cool story - its been happening for a good while.
As for Wordpress blog style - thats just non designers being lazy and using a theme - no reflection on design industry or at least the good design industry.
- breadlegz
I've noticed more and more websites have moved away from the basic wordpress blog style and into more of a well designed single page style..
Almost in responce to Flash dying, the creativity is picking up again in the corporate world.
DESIGN IS BACK.... death to the "2 column with banner at the top" style...
