Looking for suggestions of nice places in NY to stay for a week or two and figured that some New Yorkers on QBN might be able to recommend some places that might not be marketed well over in this side of the pond that i'd never know about.
Looking for nice hotels with class and character at reasonable prices. Not looking for a budget place, but not looking for way overpriced. We want comfort and services (pool would be nice as its late summer the visit) but after all its only a place to sleep at nights as there's plenty to see and do in the big apple.

There's some pretty sweet places on Airbnb. We had an apartment over in Greenpoint a couple of months ago, which was really nice.
Stayed a couple of nights at Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg as well - awesome converted building, with Brooklyn Bowl and Brooklyn Brewery across the road, and short walk to Bedford Ave and the L train to get to Manhattan. (Also not far to the G train, but that's less useful)
http://wythehotel.com- my brother recommended Williamsburg to me a few weeks ago23kon

Stayed at the Vanderbilt YMCA when I visited years ago when at art college.
Looking for something a bit more upmarket as it's a kinda honeymoon.
But we are willing to not go full on luxury so that we can afford to stay longer.- ha I know - was joking. But that was good place when v.young.fadein11

if you're spending Wythe money, then "On the Ave" is a decent place - nothing particularly stylish about it, but it's good value, especially for the panoramic rooms up top. Upper W Side, neighbourhood feel, away from the madness of the centre.

When are you here?

This place is nice. Good decor, fun bar, pretty good location. Not the cheapest, but there are many much more expensive!

AirBnB - no question. Lets you stay in a great area for a fraction of the price of a hotel.
I had guests recently who stayed in the West Village for about $150 a night for a private apartment (i.e. not sharing).
