R.I.P. Jason Molina
Jason Molina, of Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co., has died, as Chunklet notes.
Molina died on Saturday, March 16 from organ failure due to alcohol consumption, according to Chunklet. His last release was 2012's solo Autumn Bird Songs.
Molina's problems with alcohol were brought to public awareness in late 2011, when the Molina family posted a plea for contributions to Jason's medical fund on the Magnolia Electric Co. website. They wrote that over the last two years, he had been in and out of rehab. He did not have medical insurance, and had been in convalescence working on a farm in West Virginia.

He was super talented! I first heard of him when I walked into a record store and they were playing his then new 2005 Magnolia Electric Co. album Trials And Errors. It's one of his more rockin' releases and has a very Neil Young vibe to it. I've been a fan ever since but I only got to see him live once since he didn't tour much due to his "illness"
There's a bunch of live recordings on the Internet Archive to check out. Here's a good one.

Study: Alcohol 'most harmful drug,' followed by crack and heroin

I know people say alcohol is a drug and I've seen it's addictive and destructive sides first hand but saying "drugs killed him" seems more like you're talking about harder drugs like heroine, cocaine, Oxycontin etc etc etc.
I don't know his personal habits and he could have very well been using hard drugs but I draw a very big distinction between a drug addict and an alcoholic.
Coffee and caffeine are the most widely used "drugs" in the world but no one calls habitual users "drug addicts"

I knew a handful of people that died from drugs, I never knew anyone that died from drinking, at least none that died young, so its hard for me to look at alchohol the same was a heroin. This guy must have drank and obscene amount, one of those people that drinks every day for much of the day.

We are deeply saddened to announce that Jason Andrew Molina passed away in his home in Indianapolis this past Saturday, March 16th of natural causes at age 39. Jason was a world class musician, songwriter & recording artist. He was also a beloved friend. He first caught international attention in 1996 when he began releasing albums under the name Songs: Ohia. In 2003 he started the band Magnolia Electric Co. Between those two bands he released over a dozen critically-acclaimed albums and — starting in 1997 — he toured the world every year until he had to stop in 2009 to deal with severe alcoholism. Jason was incredibly humbled by his fans’ support through the years and said that the two most important words he could ever say are “Thank you.”
