Making a book 140mm x 200mm, 24pp, colour, printed on uncoated stock. Saddle stitched.
The proof I have is on 160gsm cover, 100gsm text. Feels nice, delicate, precious.
Artist wants and I'm wondering about heavier. 240 cover, 160 text. Don't want to over-do it though. Size / page count do you think the heavier weight will be too heavy?

it very much depends on the stock - grammage doesn't mean an awful lot - some 160gsm can feel thinner than 135gsm.
160gsm should be ok, but I'd always get a white dummy made up so you can fell the heft of the booklet.
Also, from an artist's point of view, you should check on show-through - 100gsm can be awfully susceptible to this. Again it depends on the stock.

What's the book for?
is it a brochure/catalogue for a show or is it a book that will be for sale?
if the former, then lighter stock would probably be ok. If the latter, then maybe go heavier, but as hans said, always get a dummy made up by the paper company to check. Especially if it's a big run.

- if it was me i'd print it on newsprint - it would really add to the character of the piecehans_glib

I'd say suggest to him a 240gsm cover and a 120/130 text. that should be fine!

I've gone with 225 / 120. It's Kaskad eider vellum, nice paper with little show through, feels good.
Thanks
