Is there a better/best way or common practice you all do to get smaller web/e-mail ready pdf's. I have a small brochure/booklet roughly 12 pages and I cannot get it to output less than 11MB.
Tried interactive pdf and smallest file size pdf as well...
Thanks in advance.

depends on your content and what you're exporting from...

In the past when trying to do this (>10MB for email) I've exported pages as JPEGS and then merged into a PDF in Acrobat. Might have to fool around with quality settings to get the best possible image in the filesize range you want.

- in my experience, a vector/type file is much MUCH smaller than a jpeg, no matter whatmonospaced

if "Smallest File Size" isn't doing it for you, you might be out of luck
- for me that's not even acceptable image quality for on-screen or emailsmonospaced

How big are the actual page sizes - web-sized or print-sized?
if the latter, you might want to consider shrinking the pages so they're comfortably viewable at typical screen resolutions...

I went from 18MB to 900KB with the save-as»Optimized PDF and then playing with the settings!

are there any images at 300ppi ?
Did you resize any images downwards in inDesign or Illustrator? If so, you might resize them in photoshop first, at say 200 ppi, then re-import them...

zip-it :-)

Given that it is 2012, why not use something like Dropbox, ShareFile, YouSendIt etc. and retain the quality?
Is the person on the other end on a dirt slow connection?

Expert as best resolution from Indesign. Open PDF in Acrobat. Go to FIle > Save as > Reduce File Size.
A 150MB sucker can easily be reduced to 1 MB.

first- what program are you exporting from?
select jpeg compression & lower the dpi settings for your images. try between 100-200dpi in the pdf export settings.

go in and change the DPI for images in indesign... if that's what you're using? check all linked files and resize accordingly.... and optimize in acrobat

open in preview, save again, should be smaller, don’t know what it does to the file though, might be trashing profiles or so...

If saving pdf from illustrator: uncheck box that says "preserve illustrator editing capabilities".
Cheers!
