@newuser Erm, surely it's a positive way to make new connections and it also gives him a better chance of being selected for collaborative work in the following year, due to his work being fresh in the memory.
Personally, these acts of kindness (self promotion) leave a lasting impression, on me at least, and if the opportunity arose I wouldn't think twice to hire the guy.
