So, are all the critics praising this solely based on it's comparison to other Bond films? If so, what does that say about the quality of other Bond films? And, why should it get critiqued only against itself and not at least others in the genre, not to mention all films in general?
This movie is completely mediocre. Silly, stupid, one-dimensional, predictable, and boring.
With one major exception: The photography is excellent. It's solid for start to finish, and has brilliant shining moments scattered throughout. Pay careful attention to the photography to avoid being bored in the theatre.
- Most of them are pretty awful.CygnusZero4

I actually think Chris Nolan's vision would be too complex for a Bond movie. It doesnt even seem like they are trying to go more 'complex' with it.
You let Nolan work on it and it would have a very deep story thats pretty smart, which I would enjoy, but I get why the producers of Bond wouldnt want him. They seem like they are dying to get back to the Brosnan style Bond movies.

I wonder how many of these critics are actually paid sponsors. They never seem all that critical when a major blockbuster is on the line.

^ I dont know. Some of them ripped Dark Knight Rises to pieces and plenty of other blockbusters. I guess it's possible they just legitimately like this movie which is hard for me to understand, but it's just opinions.

Honestly, I thought the beginning was great...It just went downhill from there.

Font's aside I think the beginning credits was awesome along with Adele's voice
- Font's > FontsBeeswax
- Technically, font's < fonts
The first is only one, after all.
.detritus - no, it's not font'smonospaced

So let's see (spoilers)...an agent abducts the head of British Intelligence to his childhood home in the country while their are people coming to kill her. With no weapons and never calls for backup.

I thought the last two were better. I felt it was lacking. And the antagonist was more funny than scary.
Still a cool movie worth seeing.

just saw it.
i give it a mehh out of 10

I thought the first half was great and in keeping with the last two films. Second half the plot kind of fell apart. I wish they would leave out the dumb computer hacking scenes.

I have to say I thought it might be the best Bond movie ever. It was everything a Bond movie should be. The action at the beginning was just insane.
- dbloc0
fell asleep in the movie
- k_temp0
I liked it.

Soooo overhyped!!! nowhere near as good as Casino Royale. With a story that just dragged on and on by relying on that tired computer hacking plot device. And did they even hire a motion graphics shop this time for the opening? It was also awful! Some of the cinematography is stunning I"ll give it that at least.

I thought it was great. There wasn't too much gratuitous, drawn out fighting. The cinematography was amazing throughout. Some of the unrealistic scenes seemed more real thanks to sound. Great bond girls. Bardem was outstanding. This one was slightly more grittier, aesthetically as was the plot. It wasn't all shiny polished gadgets and office with chases and explosions.

SPOLIER ALERT:
When Bond says, "a waste of good scotch" I must admit that my first thought was: "UM, AN INNOCENT WOMAN WAS JUST MURDERED. WITHOUT REASON. YOU JUST SLEPT WITH HER. LAST NIGHT." Certainly, her life was not worth less than an ounce of some mass-produced liquor that 007 could easily afford.
- Have you watch the last 2 Bond movies? He's heartless with women, they're disposable objects.CygnusZero4
- The fact that he didnt give a shit at all that she died is very typical of him. He values scotch more than women.CygnusZero4
- I thought it was weird that he identified her as a sex slave and then slept with her straight away...BaskerviIle
- Oh, we're supposed to think that's cool? I don't get it.nb
- ...surely she'd be riddled with disease?BaskerviIle
- What's an ounce of that scotch worth, a couple thousand?nb
- And, what is his motivation? If he doesn't value human life, why has he dedicated himself to MI6?nb
- Thats just how he is. They pointed it out in both previous movies, he doesnt give a shit about women.CygnusZero4
- He said in Casino he cant be half monk half hitman. He's just a heartless killer dedicated to his job. Has a few screws lose.CygnusZero4
- Oh. I thought Bond was supposed to be the perfect man or something. Now I just think he's a cunt.nb
- BTW a bottle of that Macallan is 6 grand. I guess thats worth more than a womans life to him.CygnusZero4
- he has to pretend to be a knob jockey so bardem's character thinks he's in with a shout.ebertzjaw

I thought it was OK... Bond films are always silly, and what action blockbuster isn't these days? Javier Bardem never really got going, he was far more menacing in No Country For Old Men and had a far sillier haircut.
To tick all those Bond boxes and still have a generally coherent film was no mean feat. There was almost too much self-aware referencing of old movies and Bond clichés – and all that unnecessary bumf about his parents – some might call it a reboot but I reckon they should leave it there.
I mean is a totally straight, emotionally vulnerable, mechanical gadget-less Bond who doesn't drive a tricked out classic British sports car really Bond any more?
- Not the Bond that we knew, which is what I liked about the last 2. It was change at the right time.CygnusZero4
- Now we're going back to the goofiness of the 80s and 90s. Way too soon for that.CygnusZero4
- hellobotto0
Best reimagining of Home Alone yet.
- Yeah that whole ending sequence was ridiculous.CygnusZero4
