What's with you people? A new office chair?
To improve work, I'd spend that $1000 on RELIEF. Vacation or hire an assistant.

That 27" monitor you mentioned in your first post would be at the top of the list for me right now. The extra screen real estate I'd get over my current 24" model would definitely make me more efficient.
Also, no one pays me to say this but if you do a lot of your own invoicing a http://www.freshbooks.com/ account is worth it's weight in gold.
Also also, I have an Aeron chair that was acquired through circumstances that I'm not at liberty to discuss on an internet forum, but otherwise that would be on my list too.
- dual monitor ftwscarabin
- did you steal the chair from work and call it "trickle-down ergonomics"?scarabin
- bhahah!! No I didn't steal the chair. And dual monitors has always given me a headache.nocomply

2 monitors, one pretty good and large, one very small and cheap, to be like the "average office user" to see what they see.... and to keep your email and text files and menu clutter on while your "real work" is on the big monitor. The non-switching of stuff has saved my brain flow train of thought quite a bit....
Then I'd get 2 good prime lenses, probably an 85mm F1.8 and a used 50mm F1.8 .. and a good used SB800 flash and a few reflectors. And spend a LOT of time practicing bounce flash and reflector use with this so you can shoot good environmental portraits, which are often much more about your ability to relax people and balance light than they are about gear, but a prime lens causes you to stop zooming and re-thinking and just focus on what you need sometimes.... practicing with a prime helps you previsualize and it's a fast way to learn how to think photographicaly in my mind. Bounce flash with reflector use can be the difference between shit and good portrait work. Also, if you can't afford the SB800, and you can learn manual flash control, a used cheap sunpak 383 is good...
good luck! That's what I'd do if I was in your situation....
- a used 50mm F1.8 ? I think you meant 1.4 or 1.2, new the 1.8 is like $100albums
