All,
Anyone know in regards to the URL of a site, if it's better to have a well named folder structure with an index file, or if its best to have just a well named file in the root?
e.g:
mysite.com/widgets/(defaulting to index.html)
or this:
mysite.com/widgets.html
or even:
mysite.com/widgets/widgets.html

best to have just a well named file in the root or sub directory, if you choose the first option you would lose the benefit of having a optimized file name which is of primary importance.

since Gordy is referencing html page names it's safe to assume we aren't discussing a dynamic site with url rewrites. I'm of the opinion that having an html page title of "keyword-keyword-keyword-keyword... is better than a folder titled "keyword-keyword-keyword-keyword... with an index file inside - for simpler sites.Seeing that this isn't a dynamic site (I'm assuming) wouldn't google index "http://www.url.com/foldername/k... better than "http://www.url.com/foldername/k...
Obviously url, header tags, body copy, and text links are the determining factors but ...

I think if the ../foldername/.. isn't of any worth, ie, there aren't similarly valuable and relevant links that are siblings of your /keyword.html page, then it's not going to help, certainly if there aren't any worthwhile links on your keyword.html to any of its siblings, then, no - I'd just have the keyword.html page in all it's semantically correct glory. There's no point in being 'clever' now, just build your site as strictly correctly as you can, which you wouldn't do were you to include a meaningless empty folder level.
Hope that makes sense.
