I'd rather spend $20 now than $200 later to fix my broken screen or damaged phone. True, the screen might still break, but at least there's SOME protection, and most good cases will at least wrap the corners in bumpers (thus, protecting the screen even a bit).
I got a $20 Rocketfish case from Best Buy for my iPhone 5...it was all that was available at launch, but it's a decent case. Used to have a SwitchEasy CapsuleRebel for my 4 - always protected the phone, costs about $28. Wouldn't spend more than $30 on a case.

- I quite like the idea but is it not tedious having to whip it out of the sleeve every time it rings?set
- yeah.. maybe a wee bit. Perhaps i'm un popular enough that it's not too much of an issue.bogue

I use this one: http://www.cellphoneshop.net/5cl…
because the new iphones are lighter and don't need big case. Plus it's only $3 so you can print up your own artwork here: society6.com for the skins

- i'm not sure it's either. It's just a genre, check out the styling of any new Honda car, or watch the alien trilogyfoz

That's what I've had. I dropped my phone (more like threw as I instinctively swatted at it while it was flying through the air), landed on concrete about 6 feet away, and was fine. Small ding in the metal part of the case, but that's all.
I was honestly about to take it off, I hate cases, but this one really does look nice and is the smallest I've found (and you can swap the blk/wh of the backs, if you care, and I do).
Highly recommended.

I have a wooden bamboo iphone case/protector thingy that looks nice. tight to the form of the phone. It is on there so tight I am unsure I can take it off anymore.

What you want to do is get yourself a really good case. Then get yourself another case. Make sure the second case is slightly larger so it fits over top of the first case. Can't be too safe.
