The Stedelijk work is typically Dutch in that it is very thoughtful and considered intellectually but most people think it looks like a pile of crap.
I like it, in context.

Agreed. It is complete shit.

"with the right application this could/will be an excellent piece of design work. Don't be ignorant...." – set

There's your application. Mevis & Van Deursen may be top shelf in most cases, but that doesn't save this logo/brand.
There's a very good reason this rebrand's few defenders at UC appeal to the designers' reputations or the Europeanness of the design, but can't explain why it's good. (Because it's SHIT.)

Design is boring right now. So is music.
Sometimes it happens. Although it could also be a dead end and now everyone has to compromise for eternity because their brains can't think of something more original.

Finding a good designer in the US is as difficult as finding a dentist in the UK.

I think a good place to start is a Print Magazine Regional Design Annual. That's about the only issue I try to buy anymore. But, the kind of textured, retro style has definitely been very popular in the last few that I've looked at.

Swiss design is ONLY using Helvetica.
American design is using ALL the other fonts.

This wasn't meant to be a big attack on the US.
Just see so much hipsterish retro faded, torn, worn looking stuff that really is boring to me.
I guess its just down to personal taste - I like hard edged minimalist design - i.e. Swiss lol.
The links people are posting are generally what I didn't want to see which says a lot I guess.- So you basically want design firms in the US that look like Swiss firms?aaux

The most graphic design jobs are in USA. Smaller countries might put out "better" work, but still they don't put out the volume nor opportunity to work like we do here.
- You're saying
Quantity > Quality ???randommail - quality depends on the market. I'm saying we design more than smaller countries.robotron3k

Once in a while i go there http://www.manystuff.org and wonder how they pull it off. I don't know in america but in canada i rarely see this kind of stuff. I would be surprise it only appeal to europeans. I'm not saying it's better or anything but i wouldn't mind a bit more diversity.
