What killer features is spotify missing?
Im doing some market research and want a competitive edge
or is it too good and we should all stop trying to compete?

I hate it.
How about being able order shit by release date?
It's a UI nightmare. They have all the time in the world to make an interface that works, but it's fucking awful. Reminds me of places like Starbucks. All the time in the world to make better coffee but they just can not be bothered.
Plus - more emphasis on peer recommendations. I don't care about what the Guardian are reviewing. I want to see friends' libraries.
- man, you are just too harsh...
give the guy a break man, ease into it like would talk to someone in person :)Miguex

Needs some kind of ability to add an artist to an artist list and all their albums appear beneath them. The way it's built around playlists doesn't make it easy to all at once grab a band and have their albums in your playlist.

It's essentially a poor-mans itunes.
I don't agree that it's a UI "nightmare" though - it's perfectly usable. Although I will say that based on my use-case alone I would place more emphasis on the search functionality, since that is primarily the first thing I do when I open up spotify. Secondary to that I may browser recommended or similar artists to those that I search.
I also agree about making the peer recommendations larger or higher up in the hierarchy.

a more intelligent artist station algorithm

I only find about 60% of what I'm looking for there.
- is that a syndication or search issue?trooperbill

Shuffle should be per playlist or pageview. Hate when I forget its on.

you need FB to login. bloody stupid.

It would be great if you could create nested playlists. And uncoupling it from FB would be a giant step forward.

do any of you use the app?

Add AirPlay!
- Right now I have to use Airfoil ($25) to stream it to my sound system.monospaced

I follow the birp.fm playlist, and can only find 50% of the artist on there — if I'm lucky.

How about when I'm listening to Hip Hop, don't interrupt with a country music artist's commercial promoting his shitty new album.

I have spotify and like it, but I have rarer taste than their list includes...
Maybe if there was some way we could upload an mp3, they put it in some sort of legal-limbo till they figure out the shit, then make it live once it's cleared that would work well to add songs.... and also list some "status" on your pending song uploads so you know what's up....
- nice idea but indi producers would be a nightmaretrooperbill

What I meant about Artists:
There's no ability to "Add All By Artist" and see your list of artists in a view that's similar to iTunes column browser. For example, let's say I want to add every album by Built to Spill to my account. I only know how to do this by adding every album as a playlist. But I'd rather have this under the artist label, which means creating a folder then adding the playlists under it. it's just kind of tedious.

I love it, and use it daily.
In fact, it replaced iTunes on my laptop computer. You destroyed pandora and last.fmGreat design and easy to use. A lot of tunes are missing but it looks like it's responsibility of unsigned/ smaller artists to submit their own tracks thought delivery services, I'm sure the library is growing by the second.
I not only get to discover new music, but I sometimes re-visit old classics that I probably lost a while back.
Main flaw in my opinion:
You won't let people without facebook sign on to your service.
