Try scanning a pencil or pen line drawing into Photoshop.
Add grey background and some white brush strokes behind the scanned drawing to highlight the nose and eyes etc..
Add some scanned ink splashes and blobs.
Then add a few newspaper elements and bobs you uncle :)Easier said than done i know.

Keep in mind the thing that makes it look good is the sketch in the first place. If you can't get that right on it's own then it wont work

To transfer newsprint onto an illustration that you've done, put newsprint over your illustration (the side down you want to transfer) then soak a paper towel in Acetone and wipe the back of the newsprint gently.
It's a really nice technique that'll allow you to do the same with printouts and photocopies too.
Used to do this technique a lot to get "Tomato" style stuff years ago when I was at art college.
- any solvent. acetone is quite strong... will melt your nails off your fingers if you're not careful...sine
- rubbing alcohol ought to work as well. or hell, just rub it vigorously while dry, newsprint isn't the more durable of inks.monNom
- yes, alcohol is definitely less harsh. anything that evaporates (solvent) and doesn't soak the paper.sine
