As a wannabe audiophile myself, I recommend you invest in a great receiver (stereo or surround) and a set of complimentary speakers first. Then attach an Apple TV.

Jambox looks cool but it's using bluetooth? Airplay will give me lossless audio, then it comes down to how good the speaker(s) are..

Yeah and nothing is really going to beat my $1000 headphones. That's not the point of my post however, and I'm not really wanting to spend that kind of money as I will 90% of the time be using said headphones - looking for something passable to use in more social settings and general media consumption. I know bluetooth can have it's issues, but wireless ie. data over a network, is another thing altogether?

if you are an audiophile, you know that wireless degrades audio quality regardless of speaker quality.

I recently got a new macbook and somewhat of an audiophile, whilst normally content with my senheisers I'm looking to get some speakers to compliment my laptop for when there is more than just me in the room. (am starting to do some audio production as a hobby) Ideally something that has airplay so it can be controlled via other idevices, but more importantly can sync directly (bluetooth?) with OSX as the default audio output..which part of a wider move to reduce cables in my workspace.
Any products worth looking at/avoiding?
