Ouya Performance Not Particularly Exciting
Results of recent benchmark tests reveal that Ouya is not up to the mark and there are over 70 other ARM devices that perform better than the gaming console. Futuremark, which is known for its benchmarks like 3DMark and PCMark, benchmarked mobile devices and the Tegra 3 powered Ouya has been ranked 73rd.
- Colour me surprised. This whole pitch has had more than a little a feel of novelty bandwagon jumping.detritus

^ Sony are doing that at the moment actually, MS did a fair bit of it over the past few years but managed to piss off every single team they worked with.

OUYA will get optimized XBMC support... So even without putting a single game on this thing, it will easily have the full functionality of a dedicated home media center for videos / photos / music. Basically a fully open source AppleTV for $99. Sick.
"Maybe it was inevitable. Maybe it was because of the hundreds, if not thousands, of demands on Twitter, in blogs, on Facebook, in Reddit, and in Kickstarter comments. Maybe it's because many of Team OUYA support XBMC, and nearly a third of Team XBMC members are OUYA backers.
Regardless, we are delighted to announce that XBMC will be working with OUYA to ensure that XBMC works well on the OUYA platform. OUYA's Android underpinnings and XBMC's work on Android (soon to be merged into master, pending final sign-offs!) will dramatically speed up that effort, as will early XBMC dev access to OUYA prototypes.
The conversation between our two teams is young, but talk is ongoing and positive. We look forward to providing more exciting news on this front as it develops."

Anyone get their Ouya. They really shit the bed IMO.... :\ sad that i need to retract all my excitement.

Kinda cool, but my reaction went from surprised shock to 'oh... another re-release of FFIII...' man have they ever milked those early FF titles. Still, it's probably them testing the waters too..

I was wondering about this the other day. I'm sure there are youtube video reviews by now.

they just paid me my refund request. Still hadn't even shipped. Their communication is atrocious.

so what's wrong with it?

Im for it and Im backing it to get a console at launch . It will really be about the games and take a look at how the indie game movement is really booming right now with Unity 3D and the Unreal Development Kit in the forefront . Both already build to Android devices and if you have been messing with either tools, you know that the input handling makes it pretty nice to go from Joystick to Keyboard , to touch screen input with out a big head ache of remapping or recoding . A huge plus IMO for indie developers
So like always it will be about the games, look at iPad, sure there was nothing to compare it too, but what if Apple had no App Store , would the iPad been as successful with just the few built in apps it came with? Probably not , but it was when they opened the door to any geek with a computer and the time to put something together that really made the iPad what it is.
However I am trying to figure out who the OUYA appeals to the most , so far mainly hackers/developer types who see potential for their projects. The casual gamer or even the Hardcore gamer might not be enticed to get one just to play Angry Birds on the TV . On the other hand with PS4 and Xbox 720 on the horizon , I am sure the $99 price tag on the OUYA will appeal to some come Xmas 2013 vs the next gen systems at prob $399
- Aye, I can see 'a platform like this' becoming huge worldwide, in emerging markets.detritus

Interesting times for Linux (etc) gaming, what with GPU drivers getting sorted out and Steam ready to make a big push.
I just don't see what this wee thing really has to offer proper gaming heads, who likely own computers, 'real' consoles and mobile phones which offer more oomph.

ahahah. wtf? that gif is hilarious. So what happened?

@Scarabin, it's slow to ship, which is fine but they've been really about it - making promises all the time then missing their promises or just not giving any follow up. They made a big announcement in May that 100% of the orders have been shipped and were all self congratulatory about it but, for example, I still have not even received a tracking number for mine. Many people were able to confirm that their order was still waiting to be shipped. So some of their PR is just bold-faced lies.
The unit itself has not fared well upon review. Bad controller response, lag, OS bugs, clunky UI, everything feels half-assed. Was touted as a potential media player contender out of the gate, but the XMBC implementation is rushed & half-assed again.
Games themselves are just shitty half-assed ports of android stuff...
The worst thing is they have been quoted that they're hoping to release a new system quite frequently, so you kinda feel like 'why bother' with the first generation anyway because they've basically said they're already planning for the next one. :P
Just really bad PR all around.

Units will start shipping by the end of the month:
