Aside from the vaguely Apple-esque usage of astronomical graphics, I think the work in the original link is pretty damn good - especially if it's from a young'un.
Good stuff... and good to see someone with a creative bent take a stab at a rebrand for a company that is essentially reviled by all the 'free-thinkers' out there.
MS have made a fuckload of cockups this past decade, and Ballmer really should get fucking trebuched into the sea, but they're a respectable form of competition — with a bit of corporate-cultural surgery to get them to stop thinking of themselves as righteous corporate incumbent behemoth, they could actually do some good things this next decade.
- I really like this mote about skeumorphism vs digital - that's bang on, imho. http://www.minimally…detritus
- yeah, but that wasn’t his idea - microsoft came up with this "pure digital"-thingpressplay
- which I think is a bold step and it was about timepressplay

this rebranding approach has nothing to do with microsoft in any way

Rebranding something is easy if you don't have to deal with a client or any corporate goals at all.
This is the design equivalent of having a wank
- nothing wrong with having a wank though... you just shouldn’t feel like you’ve accomplished something difficultpressplay
- Yeah totallyanimatedgif

Maybe... maybe this could be a(nother failed) QBN project. We rebrand Microsoft.

good job. but it way too inspired from Apple. Seriously.
And the "i" of microsoft without the dot is really bugging me. All i see is 'crosoft' for some reason.

Believe it or not, Balmer is worth more than the Jobs estate $15.7b:
http://www.forbes.com/profile/st…Jobs Famliy $9b.
http://www.forbes.com/profile/la…Had Jobs not sold off his 1985 Apple stock, he would have been worth around $56-$57b. Almost up to Gate's $61b.
Granted, I know Job's core motivation was not money. Just find it interesting.

I think this guy, J. Allard:
Was some wasted talent, he convinced Gates to go against Sony on the console market and release the Xbox he was working on that until a bit later the release of the 360 when they moved him to the fucking Zune division, and look how that went, I don't think it was his fault, the iPod was already too big when they tried to compete against it.
MS needs more of these "mavericks" on the lead.

this thread reminds me of this ...

I'm not hating, I love my Xbox 360 bought on release day and look forward to their next console.
MS should get rid of the Ballmer http://www.vanityfair.com/online…
- Nature should take it's course, soon enough (death or retirement). Can't believe the guy hasn't had a stroke yet.ETM
- Wow. That article is spot-on.monkeyshine

If only MS could see far enough down the line, that their bailout of that troubled little company would create their biggest competitor. And all they wanted at that point, was SOME competition to get the governemnt off their back:
"It was August 6, 1997, Microsoft was being sued by the federal government, and Apple was struggling. No one had even heard of an iPod. Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced to the company's shareholders that Microsoft was buying $150 million in non-voting shares of Apple stock, and guaranteeing to support Office for the Mac for five years."
All the haters, should at least thank MS for this, or you wouldn't have your beloved Apple as that troubled time was still 4 years prior to he iPod and they would likely not have made it that far.
- governemnt typo. Oh well.ETM
- I am thankful. I don't hate MS at all, but I do like my iPod/iPhone/iPad.ETM
- A dozen reasons why Apple needed help, back then:
http://www.oobject.c…ETM - Amazing how far they've come. MS just needs a visionary and to break up/spin off some divisions.ETM
