It's a massive improvement. It should be their site hasn't changed in over what 5-6 years? I'm hardly surprised a redesign is in the works. Hard to sell Microsoft.com on your new tablet/upsidedown laptop/touchscreen cunt wizard when it looks like shit.. Makes sense.
They've always had "decent" design when needed...
Check the current main site: www.microsoft.com
now check the Microsoft Mac site - http://www.microsoft.com/mac
Those are worlds apart. It's been this way forever.. they know their audience.Problem is they never push their core audience to move forwards.. Apple does this almost too much, Microsoft not even close to enough.
Responsive design I should fucking hope so considering you update your global web presence every decade... Pat on the back to those involved would love to see the over all strategy for a site this large. And a tripple pat on the back if they had to site with sweaty ass pig faced Steve Ballmer in any meeting for this. Fucking Bravehearts you all should be knighted.

Yup. Epic pats on the back for the design team to wade through what must be a hell hole army of different interests, product groups, department etc. to get to a home page design that is actually decent.

Maybe it's just me but the now that Mr Jobs is gone I see a good opening for MS to actually compete.
And by the looks of it they are doing the effort. The site redesign looks a bit template-like but million times better than apple (at least a lot more contemporary).
Considering design improvements for Apple nowadays are adding speakers and more USBs/Thunderbolt to the macbooks I dread to think what is coming.
I can totally see Siri becoming today's clippy
- they do compete you plonkerfadein11
- why does every damn tech company, product or piece of news need to be compared to Apple?inteliboy
- NOW THAT JOBS is GONE? You crazy.monospaced

Just wait for their lawyers to see it and add all the ™s and ®s back to the product names.

Why is the carousel image is so huge? I know it scales, but still, the general % of the page taken by it is massive. I am not a fan of the style in which you have this giant image of a person (pretty girl, family, etc. etc.). It is so cliche.

Can see microsoft changing a lot from the design side of things and having more of a distinctive brand style like apple.
- They're trying. But they never stick with the right things long enough, and the wrong things for too long.ETM

Wow, where did it go?????????

it looks like a million other sites. huge scrolling image (usually contains 4-5 slides) some content below, and then a big-ass gray footer with legal links and site map.
it's not bad...it's just not new.

Ditch the fucking stock photos MS, they're horrible
- rosem0
they need a new content strategy. seems so dated.

Looks like they bought the template off Themeforest and swapped the logos.

Hmm they changed the bottom left, removed the logos. Wonder why. Some people mentioned templates. It doenst matter, the design of this page doesnt get in the way of what you're looking for, and that's all that really matters.
- Nevermind, I was looking at the discover section. The logos are further down.CygnusZero4
