Growing up in a diplomatic familly,
this is a very dangerous precedent, I hope it's fake

Can we not just extradite David Cameron and the rest of the Tories instead.
It would probably do a lot more good.

the police surely can't go into the ecuadorean embassy - it'd make it open season for all nutters on british embassies worldwide. who gives a shit about that little prick, anyway? if the swedes want him let them sort the mess out. we should stay out of it

UK gov can revoke diplomatic immunity and go in to the embassy.
While that is highly unlikely, Ecuador is simply using him as some sort of a bargaining chip. Ecuador as a country does not have any leverage with pretty much any modern nation.
UK also does not want to set an example of any internationally warranted criminal to escape in to an embassy.
At the end, he will be holed up there indefinitely until the following:
- When Ecuador has no longer a use for him (economic package from UK or some sort)
- Kills him self
- Some sort of deal in promise that he won't be harmed in SwedenThe thing to me is that he is a perfect candidate for becoming immortal yet he chooses not to do that. Anything happening to him in Sweden will bring more attention to his cause. I feel as though, much like few of his supporters have said, he is in for him self and him self only.
- Sweden is a patsy in this, they just want to extradite him to the US.i_monk

Raiding the embassy would violate the Vienna Convention and essentially tell the world that British embassies are fair game.

diplomatic asylum is a very broad concept.

What's been happening to Assange is sad and scary. Same goes for Kim Dotcom. Right in front of our eyes, clear as day, the corrupt corporate fat cat shills manipulate the world around them to their will whilst we sit back and take it up the ass pretty much.
- 20020
I shouldn't' have said criminal as he is not even really charged. He is merely asked to appear for questioning.
He screwed up. He should have returned and made the questioning / trial as a circus.

Any country can revoke the status and kick the diplomats out or arrest them. That is up the host country.
US intervention in Sweden is a conspiracy theory. No truth about that what so ever.
- ukit20
He is afraid of going to Sweden because they have harsh imprisonment that don't allow communication with the outside world. In the past they have renditioned terrorism suspects on America's behalf without telling anyone. And the U.S. has basically declared him as a terrorist.
- Sweden did alot of dirty work for CIA. The US wants him ultimately not Sweden.TheBlueOne

"Extraordinary rendition provoked a diplomatic crisis between the United States and Sweden in 2006 when Swedish authorities put a stop to CIA rendition flights."

"Could he be smuggled out – or placed in a crate or bag that has diplomatic protection?
As far-fetched as this sounds, it has been tried before in the UK.
In 1984 an attempt was made to abduct a Nigerian politician, Umaru Dikko, from Britain by placing him in a crate and attempting to ship him back to Nigeria. Those involved tried, but failed, to label the crate correctly as a diplomatic package or bag.
The Vienna Convention says: "The diplomatic bag shall not be opened or detained."
But such a package is not immune from scanning, or from thermal imaging, which would pick up body heat from inside any such package. In such circumstances, UK authorities may be entitled to open the package and seize the concealed Assange."
- How is scanning-and-opening not the same as opening? The result is the same.i_monk

Any articles based on DOJ statement about US's intent on intervention if he goes to Sweden?
- ukit20
It doesn't seem strange that they would provoke an international crisis over such minor charges?
He even offered to go to Sweden as long as they ruled out extraditing him to the U.S., and they refused.
- CALLES0
he didnt rape anyone in sweden:
"Apparently having consensual sex in Sweden without a condom is punishable by a term of imprisonment of a minimum of two years for rape."
we are all rapist!
