Whenever my macbook goes to sleep and then I wake it up, it no longer connects to my network automatically anymore.

I've changed nothing with the network. To fix it I have to turn airport off and on like 2-3 times to get it to finally connect. Any ideas?

check your IP address. Mine started with a 165 or something and I had to call my internet provider to have them hack it back for me.

This is really turning into a nightmare. It's not only not connecting after I wake the machine up, but now airport is just disconnecting randomly.

I know it has nothing to do with my router or anything since I have no network problems on my PC.

I went on various apple boards and see many people have the same problem, so Im trying different things like deleting plist files but nothings working. Guess I have to take it to a genius bar for those jerks to charge me to fix it.

The airport wont connect to the network or you connect to the network and there is no internet connection.

My old flat network had 2 pcs, and 4 macs on it, this happened to my gf becuase my router was a bit shit (poorly configured by me).

You need to find out if this only happen on your network, it could be a duplicate ip addresses.
    try settings > network > advanced > tcp/ip
    note your iPv4 address,
and click "renew DHCP lease" until the iPv4 address is different.

try re-installing airport drivers and your router firmware.

Basically airport just turns off, then turns back on by itself and wont connect to the network. Sometimes I can force it by turning it off and on manually, but it doesn't always work.

When I click on airport then click on my network, it asks for my WPA password, which I enter and 100% sure it's correct, then after only 3 or 4 seconds it says it timed out. Whole thing is just fucked right now.

    1. Apply any updates to the device that is does not currently have.
    2. Hard reset the device, wiping all your settings.
    3. Reconfigure the device, with DHCP enabled, and WPA2 wireless encryption at an absolute minimum.
    4. From your list of Access Points, remove any current listing you have to the Airport (it's the first tab of the Advanced settings for your Wifi), and then scan for your freshly-updated SSID once steps 1-3 are completed.

Note: These things are a power supply, a router, and an access point, alllll crammed into one tiny little box. These things can get hot, and when they get really hot, they can start to fuck up and act erratically.

This instructions above apply if you have the Airport connecting via ethernet to your router, and the Airport is acting as your Access Point.

If you're using the Airport as a client device to connect via Wifi to another router, you might want to consider starting over with the core router too.
Yes, it might take a while to reconfigure these bits and get them working properly, but it's better than bitching at the machine 3 or 4 times a day.

oh, i thought this was a thread about heathrow. carry on.

Ill have to take it to the bloodsuckers at the genius bar. I really have no idea what you're talking about budhahat. Start over with the core router? There's nothing wrong with the router. I have 5 other devices all using it with no problems. The mac is the only thing disconnecting constantly.

There are no problems with my WPA security, the router or the modem, just airport on the mac.

  • hansglib0

if it's the mac rather than the router, have you tried telling the mac to forget the network, trashing the airport prefs and starting a new connection from scratch?

    • Really not sure how to do that. Trashing the airport prefs? Ill have to look online for how to do that.CygnusZero4

See, this is why I'm glad they renamed the wireless card in Macbooks to Wi-Fi instead of Airport in the latest OS. Calling a wireless card in a laptop the same thing as Apple's branded Access Point, The Apple Airport, is just stupid. Sorry about the confusion, Cygnus04.

If it's your laptop connecting to your wireless router that's the problem, the internet provides a multitude of suggestions:

    hansglib's suggestion:
    - Removing the Access Point from your list of Preferred Networks (Network Preferences -> Advanced -> Preferred Networks)
    - Rescan and reconnect to your access point.

    OR

    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfi...

    1/ disable airport
    2/ delete the plist file
3/ enable airport and select your favorite network again

Bear in mind that this will erase ALL connections in your list. Be sure you remember the passwords to reconnect for the first time afterwards...

    Other things to try:

    - Manually configure your IP address for the wireless (Network Preferences -> Advanced -> TCP/IP -> enter in IP, Subnet mask and gateway -> Apply) - sometimes the DHCP servers in old/crappy routers have trouble handing out IP addresses.

    - Reset & reconfigure the router just so you know you have eliminated all possibilities.
