Got an account only to receive event notifications, don't log in or participate otherwise.

No account here. The only time I really got pressured to open a FB account was a few years back when freelancing at a company with an office full of girls. They'd spend most of the working day gossiping, stalking and laughing at other peoples FB updates - yet they continued to be confused why I didn't have one.

I haven't touched it since March of last year, because I really don't care too much about it anymore... I am however reluctant to cancel my account entirely because:
1. It reminds me of people's birthdays (email notification, I don't even open FB)
2. It's the only way I have of connecting with some of my more distant acquaintances.
3. Stupid apps like Spotify need a FB login.
4. The comments section of some news sites can only be posted to via FB.- maybe i'll rejoin to not be "disconnected" but not share my personal information or photos...ohhhhhsnap
- disconnected meaning not knowing about events happening in my communities.

@ohhhhhsnap
just set your privacy settings to what works for you. you can do this for every single photo album / apps. / etc.
Put everyone in a list so you can monitor who sees what if and when you post. i use the "custom" button a lot.
No one is obligated to comment, post or interact, but it is a tool for communication and staying connected for that matter. use it for your advantage.
