Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter, Social Media, Blogs, DIY Website Design, etc... killed web design.

WEB DESIGN BECAME...
..Less about creating and communicating an experience and more of a list of things clients wanted the website to 'do'.
..About how to slightly differently decorate the same design of web-page which coalesced around a news/blog stream of varying complexities.
..Stagnant once broadband enabled the standardization of multimedia bandwidth delivery and there stopped being a progression of complexity of what you could stuff down a user's pipe. From simple text-only, to more images, to small flash files, to large flash files, to massive images and small video to unlimited video - there it stopped. That train reached the end of the line.

webdesign became more mature. The slow realization and acceptance that content really is the king, and that a new format, for the sake of a new format, will potentially be confusing for users who only want the content, and could care less for the packaging.
There's room for 'webdesign' where the format IS the content... but at that point you've moved into digital art, not design. And from that point the rules of usability/semantic code/w3c compliance/blah blah blah... those concepts no longer apply unless to further the artist's message.
- Now apply this to vehicle design. Or packaging. It's always AN art + content = message, narrative, identity.mikotondria3

Sounds like a bunch of whiny designers that wish they were artists.

I think you just are not very good at what you do... or your clients suck.

"should this go under 'who we are', or 'about us' "?

DESIGN != ART
ART != USABILITYI think you're quite confused.

If you want to create some "web art" projects nobody is stopping you. Design is problem solving. Solve your client's problems and their customer's problems.
Save the mastubatory self fulfilling projects for your own time.

Responding again because this particular rant irked me a bit. There are some quite stunning examples of innovative + soulful stuff being done on mobile & web. You're just not looking hard enough.
My favorite at the moment is the Sword & Sworcery EP game on iOS. #Googledat.
If you're not feeling creatively fulfilled it's your own damn fault.

Change where you work. There are a bunch of shops out there still pushing it.

And MTV killed music?
There's always going to be interesting stuff made. Whether you make any money from it, or enough to raise kids, that's a whole other battle.
TV killed radio?

They can be awesome if they form part of a larger strategy/campaign.
They can be the back bone that all the other marketing materials hang off.
How am I doing?

And graphic design in general became boring once everyone got ADOBE CS on their computer.
You're obviously not hanging out with the right people.
Go talk to people doing better work.

It has become kinda boring for anything besides big budget brand experience sites which are more ad campaign related, more advertising than ecommerce. There are still some cool shit out there but the one page scrolling sites with huge text, buttons and full bleed photography seems to be the standard now. I think alot of it has to do with the iPad.

There hasn't been anything interesting on the web for a while.
I can think of a handful of cool experiments, but they're far and few between.
The web has become the new phone book. We might as well be working on an assembly line in a factory.

99% of digital design became an oversaturated, unholy turd of an industry.
