Is it the best options for web fonts? Just wondered if there are any alternative services I should consider before signing up.

I prefer the alternatives for this reason alone
"Pay Once, Play Forever. No Monthly Fees.
MyFonts webfonts are packaged in self-contained kits for easy upload to your own site, or any hosting service you please. You can use the CSS styles that we’ve put together, or fiddle and tweak until your perfectionist web designer is happy."

I liked using google web fonts because it's free. Not the greatest selection but if you are creative with web typography you can do some good looking things

As an agency who may have 10s or hundreds of site using web fonts, typekit is actually pretty economical if you get the unlimited account. Just roll a small cost into the site maintenance every month to cover it..

it makes no sense as a small business or individual to pay indefinitely to have your fonts hosted when you can buy a license for a flat fee and host them yourself. It actually only makes sense to go through this expense if the budget allows, is temporary, or branding depends on it as the pricing structure is only good for typekit... i.e. keep paying us.

Well of course it makes sense at some point. Let's say I have 50 sites, each of which uses a different web font. The cost to buy them all: $50k. Cost for Typekit: $100/year.
- OK not 50k but expensive...too tired to do math:Dqoob
- still waiting for typekit to load in my browser...albums
- & what's your plan for print fonts? who cares if print doesn't match web as long as web is typekit? you have to buy the print license tooalbums
- print license tooalbums
- yes, but generally you need both a print and web licence anyway.Amicus

Typekit Plan is included in the new CS6 cloud. So I guess it gets cheap / free if you already have a CS6 cloud account.

WebINK is another hosted service that has a good amount of fonts, and is cheap to use ($20 a year) and free to use in development in Photoshop & live sites. http://www.webink.com

http://www.fonts.com/ doing the job for me. Some amazing fonts that I can use for a flat fee of $100 a year.
Just buying 2 of those fonts would have cost about $100!
- can you use them in print too? to match campaign assets across different medias, broadcast etc?albums
- You can download certain fonts in TTF format yes.clearThoughts
- Some pretty amazing ones to. So it paid for itself already in my case where I needed a couple of fonts that where $50 each.clearThoughts

Thectypekit/monotype deal is encouraging... I like to use "real fonts" more tgan "almost like" knockoff fonts
