A buddy wants me to design a really simple website for him.
He said he signed up for Virb and wants to use that.
Does anyone here use Virb? Can I do a custom design and use their software like I would with Wordpress?
Or do I just tell him to use their templates?

Custom design isn't really an option. CSS & HTML control over existing set of themes. Real nice system, though. Skinned it once, will skin it again.

Ohhh I remember Virb! Middle school it was, I remember showing it to people as a better MySpace...
I think you used to have control over aspects of the HTML but it was mainly CSS.

NOTHING more frustrating than someone asking you to build something for them and demanding it's on a crap platform, especially one you can't do anything with.
If it's quite unusable then go back to your mate and ask why he's using that platform and what it's advantages are.
Then you reply with the advantages of using what you'd suggest instead. It'll probably make the job cheaper too as you'll be more familiar with that platform or it'll be easier to tweak.
