One morning I was sitting in my bedroom brainstorming story ideas for my RISD thesis film, and staring me in the face was the Andre The Giant poster that Shepard Fairey had given to me when I worked for him three years ago. It was then that creativity struck. I thought to myself, wouldn't it be wonderful to tell the story of the conception of Shepard's OBEY GIANT street art campaign from when he attended RISD in the early 90's?
I put together a pitch and sent it to Amanda Fairey, Shepard's wife. One week later, I received an email from Amanda saying that Shepard loved the idea for the project and could I come out to LA to speak with him about it. So I went out to LA.

Sounds like a solid ten minutes.

The look doesn't matter. Have you ever heard of DSLR that give you the same loos as Arri Alexa? It's still a student film because YOU are a student. Thus at 21 you don't understand certain nuances of life that are necessary to tell a story outside of sophomoric jokes.

Donate money to help that rat fuck Fairey's public image.
Gross, just gross.

Where did they get the money to shoot it?

Are you going to tell the part where Sheppy stole work from Erik Brunetti of Fuct back in the day?

I knew he sucked. Now I know why.

Where does the part about him selling clothing at Urban Outfitters come on?

For people addressing the poster as the kickstarter & questiong how the film has already been made...
From Kickstarter:
Hi. My name is Julian Marshall. I am a 21-year-old film director (22 on April 23rd) from Washington, DC. I am currently a senior at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
...
We built a cast and crew of about 150 people. Many of the crew helped produce Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom (Cannes 2012) and RIPD. We began to prep a 2500 square foot replica of Shepard Fairey's studio from 1990 on our sound stage, and a 27,000 pound Buddy Cianci billboard replica on site at RISD... We received a ton of support from RISD and RISD students. Roughly 50 RISD students worked on this project.
...
We are trying to be conservative, so we have set our goal to $30,000. This reflects the bare minimum (and we are very good at budgeting) to finish the project. We need funds to pay for editing, sound design and mix, vfx and wire removal, score, and color correction.

Wait, didn't Shepard Fairey already explain his concept of Andre the Giant becoming OBEY in "EXIT TROUGH THE GIFT SHOP" and how he renders celebrity meaningless trough repetition or something? Just sayin'...

EXIT TROUGH THE GIFT SHOP kind of covered him for me. Well done though, good luck!

I just realised you didn't do this. I take it back. Looks shit!

His process, social consciousness, creativity and craftsmanship is what makes him amazing. Do we call Banksy a hack because he is just stenciling on walls?
Is says a lot about a successful artist who still takes the time to meet with another aspiring artist to tell his story.
Seems like a pretty humble guy to offer your story to a girl in school rather then to a bigger production company.
thanks for the link!

I guess that you would consider Banksy, Damien Hirst, and Kanye West all... amazingly talented, genius and innovative as well...
