"If you think a weakness can be turned into a strength, I hate to tell you this, but that's another weakness” ~ Jack Handy quotes (American Writer and cast member of Saturday Night Live from 1991-2003. Famous for his Deep Thoughts comedy sketch.)
Thought you cats would appreciate that...

Real computer programming knowledge (i.e. like a degree for going to school for Computer Science and learning hardcore math, physics algorithms, etc), not learn yourself while doing design-related work. You just need too much spare time to REALLY be good at it and understand it thoroughly (I'm talking Grant Skinner-Stewdio - Natzke - Brenden Dawes - Mr Doob type good, people coming from different technologies, knowing multiple languages, and mixing shit up to become real pioneers of the industry).
It would make it so much easier to understand different languages. I like doing animation and design related shit. But being able to do that and mixing different programming languages, different technologies, even different hardware (think Kinect)...that's what would be really exciting.
Maybe once Flash completely dies :), I'll be absolutely forced to have spare time to learn new stuff (I'm talking 8 - 10 hrs a day studying on one specific thing until I've mastered it). With a family, working for myself, a house, and all that stuff now, I only have a couple of hours late at night to dedicate to studying...which I'm using up just to learn HTML5/JavaScript.

I would really like to be better at home recording and making electronic music. Would like to really just know the workflows in Logic, and have a good comprehension about how to hear a particular thing in my head and get it out in a synth, or guitar sound, or rhythm, pattern, etc.
- do you have any musical training?autoflavour
- What you need to learn is a shitload of chords.boobs
- chords help.. a lot.autoflavour
- but yep, actual song structure is always my problemautoflavour
- I've been a musician for a LONG time. I play guitar, sing, was in a band for about 5 years here in Chicago.mg33
- But the whole recording process, doing it perfectly, that's what I want to get better at.mg33
- AKA - taking the song idea in my head and getting it into the computer. I record often, but wish I was better at knowing the process well.mg33
- process well.mg33
- Some semi-recent stuff, and an album my band did: http://mg33.net/musi… That's me singing and playing guitar.mg33

i would like to learn to read music..
and learn to at least play chords on the piano by memory, and not just by ear
- scarabin0
i'm with you, mg33, i spent my whole life intentionally avoiding learning to make music, thinking it would water down my visual art skills... now that i can avoid it no longer i find i'm lacking the musical background required... having fun "seeing" music in my head using visual/photoshop metaphors though

i'm thinking of taking a real look at the piano... i can read and write sheet music, and since i've lost my hearing i often find myself reading thru sheet music/lyrics more like some would with poetry. i can't hear a thing now, but when i sit down at a piano, i can feel the vibrations as if i'm feeling the sound... it's strange, i guess. plus... i hate it when people tell me i can't do something because of my deafness... if i can master this, it'll shut some people up :-)

Proper social skills, like laughing at someones utterly boring- and intellectually void jokes.
