So how do you guys recover from something like this?
Just went through something that had decent potential, and it turned into one of the most horrendous things that i have co created. Guess i'm partialy to blame since i made some wrong choices in the begining that escalated beyond my control.
I guess now i giggle when i look at it but also feel embarrased at how shit this is.

What do you mean 'recover'? Are you going to lose clients? Professional respect? The will to live?
- 1 and 2 check - potentially lost ability to work on this client in the futureattentionspan

or just post it here

Just get paid and move onto the next project. Not every piece of work you develop has to be something you wank over :)

i'd say you've already recovered by learning your mistake

Depends on what you mean by 'made some wrong choices'?
Did you choose a weird font for the new logo, or did you do the clients daughter?
- doesnotexist0
everything was approved? you delivered everything?
got paid?
success!

You're losing clients, professional respect, the client themselves AND you're embarrassed? You're not telling the whole story if you're just saying the work isn't to your satisfaction.

Go have a drink. And then remember clients come and go and you'll have to continue working for another 40 years.

Post it here, QBN will surely make you feel better

Yep. We've all done dreadful projects and our hands still stink like we've picked up a frisbee and got dogshit on our fingers.

i used to do a school district directory in pagemaker. the memories of it still make me cry softly to myself at night.
"on the bus driver page, can you add this school bus clip art thingy? it's soooooo cute."

i was burned a few years ago; got roped into a stupid stupid project as a favor for a respected film director, and it just will. not. go. away.
In my contracts I now insist on a creative kill clause. if the work isn't up to standard, I can elect to wash my hands of it (they can as well, but it results in a stiff payout). its better to get that conversation out early then money and time have been spent.

totally! Not only "we've done" but "we will continue to do them" it's part of the gig man. On my end I did years of 'infomercial' stuff for the motocross/ rv industries for tv. I will never show those to anyone of course, but it was a way for me to start learning after effects while getting paid, so I wouldn't change that.
Sometimes the client can be very controlling and not open to have you make design suggestions. They want you to act like a tool. and the project usually ends up looking bad, but they are happy because they got what they wanted. Let them enjoy it!
but make sure you get compensated accordingly, if you know a client is going to be difficult like that, you need to be making good enough money for you to be able to deal with the situation...
